With the gracious help of a fellow Reduser, I finally resolved the issue of the "Time Code Extents Do Not Match" error message that I often get when conforming. This issue has been the bane of my Resolve Conform existence for quite some time now as it often means that I have to do tedious and time-consuming manual conforms.

We diagnosed the problem and it turns out that the Edge TC is somehow being confused with the Time of Day TC coming from the R3D files... So what I do to fix the issue is to go into RCPX and open the metadata of each clip, locate the TOD TC and then type that in the TC of the clip in the DaVinci Conform page via Clip Attributes. It's actually a fairly fast process, but still, there has to be a better way...

So my question is, isn't there a way within RCPX to switch or confirm all clips are showing/recognizing the TOD TC as opposed to the Edge TC, like a batch TOD TC export setting or something like that? This way, I wouldn't have to do it for each clip individually.

Also, why is this happening in the first place? How is it that I keep coming across this issue when dealing with R3D files?

Thanks!

I've never noticed that setting - in other grading software I use that setting is selectable on a per-clip basis which can be helpful if there is repeat TC so I was looking for it there in Resolve as well.

But I'm also curious why the OP is seeing this absolute vs. edge relatively often, whereas I've graded probably several hundred hours of R3Ds in Resolve over the years, and have very rarely seen this... perhaps working habits of camera crews / DIT on set? Would love to know...

In your Resolve master r3d decode settings, are you set to camera, absolute or edge?

I am set to "Camera" which I assume to be the default as I have never changed it.

Is this the correct setting?

Thanks, Peter.

set to camera should default to what he default metadata was on camera upon record. if the camera was set to edge code at any point for whatever reason, accident or not, the metadata might be reflecting that and trying to force connect to edge code over absolute since that's what it's flagged to be viewed at in camera. I have access to an epic this week and test it to be sure.
