I can't seem to find any videos of the new Zeiss 15mm f/2.8 on a RED anywhere. I'd like to see a clip or two if anybody finds any? I'm interested in this lens but with the 1.6x crop factor at 4k (using Scarlet), I'm wondering if it's worth the $3k price tag. I wonder if my Tokina 11-16mm center sharpness is close to the Zeiss.

We are talking cine here. 35mm sideways, not longitudinal like in photography ;-)

I haven't used it on the Epic or Scarlet yet, but I can say that the Zeiss 15mm f/2.8 is a beast of a lens. It's very impressive. Optically and build quality. Bigger than you think it's going to be. Very sharp and has pleasing distortion to my eye.

I get that and I see that in the reviews, but my questions is... with the crop factor, is it going to be a subtle difference between that and let's say a Canon 14mm, considering we won't get to see the sharp extreme edges?

The biggest difference for me between the Canon 14mm and the Zeiss 15mm is the distortion and image sharpness. The Zeiss being the one that performs better.

I am also waiting for new Canon 14-24mm f2.8 released around March. I do not think it will be as good as Zeiss but it will be handy Zoom.

If I were interested in this lens I would seriously consider spending $150 on renting it before purchasing it rather than relying on posted online videos.

One thing I have learned... Never judge the quality of a camera or lens by someone else's posted video.

All the Best!

Dave
