  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Ridley produces animated Coke Commercial

eh...

what is cool about this, though - is that a client is sponsoring a short film without the need for product placement. good direction for advertising.

It is an interesting paradigm for a company to fund a short loosely tied to their IP. We created digital matte environments with Animal Logic for the project early last year- http://www.cartelartists.com/news/

I'd like to see more of this- some of my favorite shorts were the BMW films also by the Scott Free team. Beat the devil by Tony Scott was brilliant. I would love to see these in HD.

I think it works quite well, I did not like the film but I was sitting here watching the whole time and the only thing that was going trough my head was.. why is coke doing this, how long will it go before they introduce the bottles... etc.

All in all, they made me think of coke for pretty much the whole duration of the film and in the end I did not feel I was pushed into something. They will definitely get more hits for their film this way.
And the coke brand will gain. Then when they have done a few episodes the can take this bears back int normal commercials again and that would be like having the rights to happy feet, the toy story characters, Harry potter or who ever. Basically they boost their brand in a very good way.

All in all coke has had the best marketing trough time, but lately other brands have been much more successful and coke strategies have to me seemed to be a bit old, they have not even been close to keep up with RedBull and others that are biting into their market. I think this new film is a good turn in the right direction and they still do not leave their old branding behind and the internet buss will be quite big. Atleast big enough to get it's own thread in this fashionable place :)

Very nice work, I did not know about your company, impressive.

Im biased since my first love is 3D Animation.

Loved the work and the story.

The music kept me in as well as the characters.

Forgot all about Coke.

Im a Pepsi ;)

It brings a deeper level of character to these icons that had no real story or personality to begin with. By personalizing them now, without the product placement, they bring this icon to a whole new level. like associating coke with santa claus. It's actually pretty brilliant, and now by just seeing their normal polar bear ads there is a more personalized effect because you feel like you know that character already. The film was also incredibly kids oriented so the icon can start at that age. it's ballsy, and pretty cool in my book.
