  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Enter the Dragon

Everything is about the best you have to offer.

Jim

Is the mysterium epic going to stick around once this is shipping? Or will epic become dragon only? If there is a mysterium epic, would the pricing stay the same?

Any update on IR pollution. Thats something that needs to be sorted, just saying.

ps: sorry to bum you guys out. I am like that just after New Year's...hehehe

New IR OLPF for Dragon :)

Happy New Years everyone!

Jarred.

This is not the last day of the Dragon, the Chinese year ends FEB 9th.

You could still release the Dragon in the year of it!

2012 is the year of the Dragon... for us 2012 ends tonight.. so for us.. it indeed is the last day of the year of the Dragon :)

This is the equivalent to HDRx +5. Native. I guess we just obsoleted HDRx. Oh, well. Progress.

Jim

There's something really comical (in the best way possible) of obseleting your own advancement.

Still, HDR on top of this . . . shit. I just blew my own mind thinking about it.

It appears that the Dragon will have about 4 stops more DR and less than half the noise of the current Mysterium-X sensor.

Jim

Congrats!

Isn't 13,5 stops what the mx is rated at by your own tests before hdrx? if you add 3 stops of hdrx, i follow.

This is super exciting and something to wake up to at 6am jan 1st 2013

Ah... Gotcha... Conservative... Hahaha

Conservative... and I think the chart shows 18+ stops. But remember we still have a lot to go in calibration and color science.

Jim

Everything can, and will, be made better. It is just a matter of when and by whom.

Stoked. This is more then I could have imagined! So looking forward to the time I send my Epics in for this upgrade!
Thank you guys and
Happy New Year!

Congratulations RED TEAM, Jim, Jarred, Graeme, Brent, Kelly, Stuart, et al.

This new reporting style is hard to get used to, but it seems the longer the silence, the greater the reward.

Congratulations goes to the "unattainable" ability to surpass the DR of Film... it appears you guys can no longer say you DONT know what you are doing :)

Happy New Year and rest assured this HISTORIC announcement will not go under appreciated or unnoticed, its just that most Americans are either drunk or passed out about now...

This announcement will ease many a hang over tomorrow I predict! :)

One question...
Where do the new stops fall, compared to todays mx?

I sure wouldn't mind to kick out the rudimentary nd9 for starters in an outdoor scene. All those nd's aren't allways the best for the image anyway...

Absolutely amazing.

This is awesome, think about what this means for fashion. truly amazing. Happy New Year to everyone!

RIght. Now I am gonna ask the question on everybody's mind.

Footage? :)

Reckon you could grab that prototype camera, pop outside and rattle off a few takes? :)

Other big question on my mind: how much DR is TOO much? In cinema we are always talking about what looks natural and what looks realistic for instance the whole color debate a lot of people say film skintones and all that look much more natural and how we see things whereas digital is off, etc, etc. So in terms of DR at what point does it not look "real" and natural anymore considering as some people have said the human eye arguably only has 7 real stops of dynamic range but just makes near instantaneous micro adjustments to make it appear like 21 stops.

Peter - the more natural DR the better. The camera is the canvas, not the human eye. The human eye will make adjustments to the image independently anyway.

When I bought my Epic I qualified for the free Dragon upgrade. Since the price will be a little more now will my free upgrade be affected?
