The new firmware's is out but no changes fps. Looks like if you want Red One features in scarlet, you'll just have to get a red one.

Lots of other goodies though. I know many of you had your fingers crossed... No dice.

I don't see this as bad news considering they have never promised more frame rates and scarlet shoots what we were told it would on the spec sheet. To expect more is weird... not saying I wouldn't welcome more fps just saying that there was never any indication that they would increase scarlet's frame rates or if it's even possible, only users jumped to those conclusions based on back seat math and a very limited understanding of what actually goes on under the hood of a scarlet..

Was there ever any promise of MORE fps? There were many other promises (timelapse, power, 1:1 zoom, new UI, etc). But more FPS? If you want that you should get an Epic.

When I bought my Scarlet I knew what I was getting.
If I wanted a RED MX then I would have saved up for one instead.
But after a month with my Scarlet, its a totally different user experience than the my work RED MX.
Just the ability to grab and run to shoot cant be beat.
I cant wait to weigh down the Scarlet then that would mean its being used in a real shoot :)

I just received my BRICKs...its starting to get heavy but in a good way ;)

it'd be cool to have short bursts at higher rates, perhaps that is a more realistic feature request? but truthfully i know once our upgrade option is given we will get those rates from a hardware update...

Not "bad" news -simply no news, as expected. Honestly, sometimes the conjecture and wishful thinking on REDuser turns into expectation. Now wonder people are disappointed. :nono:

anyone messed with ramping yet? u guys sure it doesn't do boosts?

...moved from redcon, didn't want to taint the announcement.

Why did you expect there to be a resolution/frame rate increase? RED said nothing about this ever.

I know you're being the voice of reason, but many were hoping to have their $10K camera at least match the quality/specs of a $4K camera. Build 4 gave people who bet on RED (in the long run) a little hope that the red headed step child know as Scarlet would be given some teeth. Suddenly the name scarlet makes sense!*Tongue firmly in cheek*

Seriously, it seems that the company play is that scarlet is basically a Red EPIC LT. LT versions seem to always be intentionally crippled. You just have to buy an epic($20k), red one($4K) or other brand($15K+) for high fps.. Isn't that strange??

I'm supriced they did not put in at least a 24p full hight sensor square in the scarlet.

i thought the height was what kept it lower... for example, you could probably shoot 200fps at 5k if the vertical height was only 720 pixels...

if it's possible to get more framerates with a simple square, i'd love it...

because it may not be possible, they are two different camera's, it's one thing if they were restricted internally but we have no proof of that or reason to believe it. Jump to conclusions all you want but the red one and scarlet are very different beasts, one is at the end of the line while the other is still quite new. And no it is not strange to go with another camera for high speed(up until recently it was normal practice) it is a very taxing task and to have it done at 4k while recording raw all internal the size they are, most likely is not possible without a massive jump in hardware as well as some faster media all of which leads to just getting or renting an epic, phantom, or fs700.

If you bought scarlet for high frame rates then you made a mistake, it's an amazing camera no need to take it down because it can't do something it was never intended to do.

Isn't that strange??

No.

You make it sound like RED is screwing Scarlet owners when it couldn't be further from the truth. Ironically, every one of their competitors does exactly what you are complaining about.

I would nuke this entire thread. It comes across as very infantile.

guys seriously.... please install the update and go through the upgrades. In no way should anyone be disappointed. The stability of these cameras now is amazing. I couldn't even use the touch screen when it first arrived. I don't even think about it anymore. The cup isn't half empty anymore.

The strange question was more of a feature that exists in a low and higher priced model is missing on the middle model.

As far as nuking the thread.. I disagree. I imagine Red would want to know what many of it's users are concerned about with it products, even if it's loony. Customers who pay $15,000+ on a camera system deserve to have a voice too.

Like I said... Lots of goodies, just not the one many were hoping for.

Your "low priced model" was $25,000 until they recently End of Lined it and sold off their remaining USED cameras at a significant discount.

You knew the frame rate/resolution specs when you bought your Scarlet.

RED comes out with a huge upgrade in functionality (on schedule) and immediately you start this thread in response. It's a total buzz kill for me. I can only imagine what it feels like for everyone at RED to see this.
