  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

48FPS - What NLE edits in that frame rate?

I believe it's still being done in conform with the editing happening at 24fps. There's probably customized, proprietary workflows for this.

Does not most editing system handle just about any time base now? Smoke / flame does for sure. I thought final cut had adjustable frame rate as well.

No, not yet as far as I know. Smoke, Assimilate, Nuke, etc will handle the 48fps but Avid, including version 6.5 does not. FCP 7 does not. FCP X (I haven't played with most recent version) does not, and neither does Adobe Premiere CS 6 (as far as I know, unless there is an alpha build out there somewhere).

Funny, FCPX doesn't recognize 3k either...

Well, Peter Jackson is obviously using Avid for The Hobbit. So I wouldn't say you picked the wrong tools for HFR :)

BTW if you really want to get that HFR look... you could of course also just cut in 50P - eg PAL mode :) Then just do a little slowdown... It's a pain but likely this will all be fixed and there will be a standard 48p mode soon at some point.

I shot and edited some 48FPS content in Premiere CS6, I didn't see anything wrong yet, there's no preset for that, but just put a 48FPS clip in it and it will ask if you want to use that setting in the clip, chose yes then everything's fine.

Yup, Premiere CS6 works easy with 48 fps. Like he said above it will automatically change the sequence setting to match the clip frame rate and resolution.
