Hi,

I am working RED RAW files (R3D) and here is my workflow in Resolve for basic primary color balancing of footage;

1-Change colorspace and gamma to > RedLogfilm / RedGamma2

2-Balancing waveform by adjusting RAW parameters in Resolve (ISO, Contrast, Shadow, Whitebalance,Exposure DRX etc)
3-Fine tune with primary color wheels in Resolve;

Then my question is;

You can balance any RAW footage in Resolve 2 ways;

1.Balance footage by using RAW parameters and THEN use resolve primary controls;
or
2.Balance by using only resolve primary controls (not using RAW parameters)

it seems both are the same but i am really wondering first method should give better results since it use RAW parameters for RE-DEBAYERING and then use Resolve primary .

what do you think?

Re-debayering isn't really the term to use here, resolve debayers then applies its effects each time as you playback.

and why limit yourself to always changing raw 1st, or always changing it?

Think of RAW metadata as one of a colourist many tools, as part of them not an addition.

Your posted workflow seems fine but don't feel you can't deviate from it.

Hi Peter,
assume you have underexposed footage with 400 ISO. (raw)

changing 400 to 800 ISO in RAW tab has same result changing shade/mid/highlight in primary?
