  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

"Only sony can do" a 4K player

First, we finally have the confirmed details of this first ever 4K player for the home: it's a hard-disc server, available exclusively on no-additional cost lease to purchasers that's preloaded with 10 full-length feature films (including The Amazing Spider-Man, Total Recall (2012), Taxi Driver, Bridge Over the River Kwai -- see the press release for a full list), a number of short concert / action sports clips from Red Bull, and an Xperia Tablet S packing a special remote control app that's similar to its Movies Unlimited service.

Are they actually shipping this yet? Funny that this press release goes out 1 day before the REDRAY announcement. It's also ironic that the 2 new films they are including were both shot with Epics :)

Marketing hyperbola aside, this is part of the 4K beach head and if Sony wants to compete with RED in the 4K distribution arena I think we will all be beneficiaries.

This is probably a good thing all around. RED has made huge progress in the professional world but at a consumer level a lot of people would be more familiar with the Sony brand and it might actually help RED in that space. I do believe you need more than one company involved if 4K is to gain momentum in the near future.

25K? and still not 3D?
I will just get few RED-Ray for all the kids rooms (lol)

I know nothing about Skyworth. But I'll take one of those 50" panels right now. Can they be ordered and shipped to the USA? Is there a broker/ importer that can handle this without doubling the cost?

Here's a place to order it: http://s.taobao.com/search?q=Skywor...=&newpre=null&initiative_id=staobaoz_20121130

Make sure the item you select is an E780U.

The street price seems to be 1,364.30 USD - 1,525.01 USD.

No idea if they ship to the US...

I am not unconvinced that Sony isn't the distribution partner RED has been hinting at. The companies seem to have developed some sort of mutual respect in regards to 4K and history has shown that Sony is the company to back when it comes to new content delivery formats.

Might not happen, but that's what I'm hoping for.

This tweet makes me think it's probably not going to work out that way: https://twitter.com/OFFHOLLYWOOD/status/274324512298901504

Would love to see a Skyworth in person. Anyone in SoCal have a unit set up?

Economies of scale are typically required to bring new technology hardware pricing within reach of the larger market, but not always. Making LCD panels of various resolutions and pixel densities for a huge range of applications is a pretty well developed manufacturing sector these days. Low cost 4K panels, even with mediocre IQ, can only help accelerate 4K adoption.

Is the Skyworth a TV or Just a Monitor. Either Way I'll Take 5 At that Price. I did not see a 1500 dollar one in that Link Posted ..
