Timecode Extents Do Not Match???

Getting an error message when importing an xml into DaVinci Resolve 9.3 from FCP7.

It says: The Clip "Blah1006_01".... can't be be linked to the media file "blahblahblah.mov" because the timecode extents do not match.

So I have all the footage, but not linked to the xml which, of course, means that I cannot watch it in order and the clips have all the handles on them, etc... Long story short, just trying to import an xml and link it to the media.

Anyone know how to resolve this issue?

So lets review the first missing clip. in your editor you should be able to determine the file name, reel number and in and out times of the clip. In the Resolve Conform EDL list, do you see matching timecodes and reel number? When you look at the clip in the medial pool, do you have matching timecodes, reel number and clip name. Or at least timecodes that extend outside the in/out boundary of the edited clip in question?
Sometimes Resolve can find the clip based on the XML to add to the media pool but when it checks the reel number and I/O timecodes there is in-sufficent clip length or a missing reel number.
If you are missing all your reel numbers, go to the project settings conform options and set the 'Assist using.....' to locate the reel number.
If all else fails, make a new two clip edit to establish settings that work for you.

There are no missing clips. All the clips were successfully imported into the media pool when I brought in the XML. They just won't link with it. So I have 355 clips in the media pool, with 5 second handles. The strange thing is that for the most part, they are in order within the timeline in the conform page and color page... They just all have the handles on them so it makes it impossible to accurately grade.

Under the Reel section it says "Untitled" or "AX" or the date of the clip. However, I'm trying to use an XML, not an EDL.

So there are no reel names. The DP told me that the Sony EX3 doesn't work that way... I don't know, as I've never used that camera.

In the EDL section of the conform page, under reel names, it's either untitled or just the date...

I tried importing xml, edl and pre-conformed edl and still can't get it to link due to time code extents not matching.

So frustrating.

I had the same issue last week. I fixed it by setting " get timecode from red files" in the camera Raw settings. I'm sorry I don't have the exact naming for the options - i'm not in front of my computer.

Unfortunately, I do not have that option since this particular project was shot on Sony EX3.

I'm currently fine-tooth combing over the user manual for any glint of help. There is a section that describes something similar to what's happening to me, but the remedy is to Conflict Resolution each clip individually. Since I have almost 400 clips, this is not a viable option. However, here I am on day three of this issue. I've just been grading the files with the handles. The DP is getting impatient though because he wants to see it as one whole sequence.

Any help would be appreciated.

Do you have any clips in the timeline or are all missing? Do any of your clips have duplicate timecode? If so these will cause conflicts as Resolve cant guess which is the correct clip. Thus the use of reel numbers.
Try exporting an XML from your FCP with a flattened file and no speed changes with just three clips so you can establish what is working.

Yes, I have most all the clips in the timeline, or at least 90% of them. It's just that they still have their handles on them. And several are out of order.

I don't know exactly how to explain it, but some clips have been "self-duplicated." For example, I have a 6 second clip. However, it shows up in the timeline as six separate 1 second clips. I went back to check the original file in my finder, and it's part of one greater, longer clip that is 5 minutes long. However, it plays out fine in my finder. I have several clips like this. In total, I have 355 files. However, it shows up in the timeline as 768 clips. Of course, a few of the files are used multiple times (such as the interview scene), but certainly not to the tune of an additional 400 clips!

I think many of them have duplicate timecode. Also, there are no reel numbers. I just learned that the editors were given no reel numbers either. So it looks like I'm going to have to use the "Resolve Conflict" option on each of the 355 clips. I just wish there were a simpler way.

Sounds like you just need to work through the timeline. The simpler way is for next time. Have the editor provide an XML that uniquely defines every clip. Use Timecode and either, reel name, file name or path.
