  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

awesome little find

AH HA!! Im not crazy! It did. Interesting. Here it is again:http://www.amazon.com/Nyrius-Wireless-Transmitter-Receiver-NPCS550/dp/B0092T3E3ALooks just like the Paralinx Arrow, and there's a review on the link by someone who used it with a Scarlet and F3. I know the Arrow is probably a more robust housing, but I just emailed them asking what the specific electronic differences are. I HATE THAT THIS RELEVANT INFO WAS DELETED WITHOUT ANY COMMENT TO MOVE IT OR TO START A NEW THREAD. WHAT IS GOING ON HERE!!! THIS IS GREAT FOR THE INDY GUY. LETS SEE HOW LONG THIS POST LASTS….
Very interesting indeed. Is information beinf withheld from us?

Interesting - but I have to say I really struggled to get it working as well and looked also like an idiot pitching wireless video village to the producers of Portlandia. I couldn't even get them to look at it again - they didnt trust it would work n set. Thats all it takes. so even if they have worked things out... they have a tough road back to credibility amongst us early adopters.

Once burned....with the pressures on set...it's HARD to get back to and open mind. :)

You guys will find that there are alternatives that look similar to our product the PARALINX ARROW - however the image quality and range, as well as professional features like dynamic frequency selection and the ability to send to four receivers is lacking, as well as the support that we offer.

even IDX is copying the PARALINX ARROW with their CW1.

Ultimately it's up to you if you want a professional grade product being made by a team of camera people, or a consumer product that may not work as you expect it to.

There is a reason I spent three years developing our product after starting down the homebrew route with a Brite-View AirsyncHD back in the day.

Dan, I'd love to post your email response to my question here for everyone to have access. You clearly highlighted the electronic differences in the paralinx arrow and the Nyrius, I think everyone here would be interested also...

Buying "pro" gear is worth it as we all know with our Epics, I have just been searching, like Dan, for a long time for anything that really works well. Looking forward to checking Dan's unit out as well as this cheap stuff.

Jake, you absolutely have my permission to do so (minus my phone number of course for now ;)

Thanks for your investigative journalism! The risk of starting a business - especially when working with overseas suppliers is that there is always someone looking to do it cheaper and cut corners. Its unavoidable unless I sit in an office and handmake them myself - which would keep me from shooting which is my other passion besides wireless HD.

If Dan nailed the case build and the connectors it's worth the money. You don't want this china crap in terms of the case, connector design etc.

This BMW AD sums it up nicely...

Here it is:

The electronic differences are:

We Use a professional grade Multi-Band DSP chip. This chip gives us a multitude of features not featured in any consumer grade product. We use the same chip in the Boxx Meridian system, and other pro systems.

Some features of the pro chip:
1. Dynamic Frequency Selection - the ability to avoid interference by detecting other devices and automatically avoiding interference - this also allows multiple Arrow units to coordinate what Channel they will be working in and communicate.

2. Additional antennas - the Arrow features a six antenna system, the consumer product features 4. This provides bandwidth for better image quality, better range, and avoids interference better.

3. Better image quality. We utilize a more advanced modulation to achieve better image quality. Yes the consumer one is "HD" but if you look closely you might notice some fuzz or corruption - this makes it harder for someone to critically evaluate the image if it is distorted, and it especially affects color representation in shadows and mids.

4. Better thermal handling. Our chipset is designed to tolerate a full days use in the sun. Competition could melt down.

5. Expanded feature set - we are going to have a one transmitter to multiple receiver option soon. The consumer product never will because it is not capable - but we also have the ability to offer even more future capability. Want new features? We will do our best to implement them for our customers because we have a development team that can provide that. Nyrius is essentially an outlet store in canada for one of the factories that was building our system. We switched factories and have a strict lock on the professional chips we are using.

The question of the vanishing posts remain. Does anyone know what happened? I wouldn't want my posts to go MIA suddenly...

another thing to add to the list - Dan's customer support which, based on user feedback posted here, has been great. your Chinese knock-off may not be so well QCed, and comes with zero follow-up support.

I ordered a wireless based on Obin's link, for my own projects where I don't want to spend up and expect to deal with the fallout from buying cheapo products, but the minute I land a job geared towards paying off the Paralinx in its first use, I'm snagging one of those...that way I will have one reliable pro unit and a cheapo back-up/2nd cam option...and a cheap wireless to use while I wait on the next big job.

I'm also kind of waiting on the purported upcoming Paralinx product announcements. After RED's abrupt price drops, I'm going to try to consciously wait for project development, rather than jump on things right out of the gate. I'm kind of burned out on being first to the party, unless I have something approximating an advance ROI.

They were definitely deleted. I really hate that.

Hello Obin !
nice from you to share this great product !
So you think the latency is less than a frame ?
Could you tell me more about the distance until loss of signal ? 10 meters ? does it go through a wall ?

thaaaankkks !

China as a backup sounds good..but after the Teradak I don't think I could ever by an expense unit....without testing first............

1/4 sec delay....it goes about 30 feet with walls

Thanks for posting here Dan Kanes as I would never have heard of your product... definitely a pro tool and looks worth it even at 10X the cost... that said many people on here are barely affording a MAG for their Scarlets and Obin offers a nice low budget alternative... but if they fail like crazy after a feature shoot. then maybe they are not worth it.

Choices are always good but for my pro productions... i would just buy the Arrow -

but for small personal projects the knock off seems fine with some battery and case improvements ... but until these are really put thru the paces... its hard to say if you will need 5 of these and end up spending the same as an Arrow.
