My Epic was booked out on its first shoot yesterday, and was running fine recording sound on-board, and playing back with sound via HDSDI output via BNC to a now Sony OLED monitor with on-board speakers. After the first setup, and playback, we moved into the car for a driving shot. Once that was done we plugged back in to the Sony OLED and played back, same cable and everything, a with no sound. Switched BNC cables, and no joy. Couldn't get it working again.

Has anyone else had this issue? Is it something obvious? Or should I lodge it as a fault. Problem is don't personally own a HDSDI screen, or one with sound for that matter, so I'm not sure how I can replicate the issue to fault find.

Yeah absolutely, I forgot to mention the workaround we did. Someone grabbed a set of small iPod speakers and we used them for the client to watch playback with sound.

Has no one had sound issues via SDI on Epic?

This is the second time SDI has played up for me, first was on my Scarlet, where no matter what I did, we couldn't get SDI playback to client monitor. Was working the day before without a change, then the next day back at the rental house, it was working again. Same cable; no change to the camera.

Same issue
And we used same solution with some laptop speakers
Epic sound is buggy, especially in playback, let them fix 3.3.14 and come up with new firmware and see what happens

Slightly off topic but I was shooting a job yesterday and recording clean output of my Epic to my PIX 240 to make ProRes dailies.
Twice during the day, the sound recordist (who was smartly monitoring the HP out on the PIX) let me know that he was no longer getting a return. He put up tone, and sure enough, nice levels on the Epic. No levels on the PIX.
We rebooted the Epic and all was well.
It happened another time but seemed to be unrelated to anything I was doing (pressing image magnification, rolling, cutting) Just seemed random.
Epic sound is... interesting. I'll put it that way.
Cheers,
Harry

not to steel the thread...
We got problem with sound aswell got som "blubber" in the backround. Recording with 2 different mic's using the ch1 (phono) input.... is this known or just us having the issue? using the latest firmware release...
