Totally irrelevant thread to post... But i just left an article on Cinema 5D regarding canon's C500. Apparently Cinema 5D users will receive a $500 discount with a promotion... This, deducted from an already $20,000 camera that under performs the oldest camera in Red's line up, now priced at $4000 and going fast. A 4k setup internally, second to what is a future "option" on nearly every single offering announced this year, 5 years after the beginning of the Red One. The only thing in the price/performance aspect regarding features that seem to have a leg up, is the global shutter on the F55. Then again, after debayering, it's a 5 year old camera with true "3.2k" resolution. ...in which case, the now 2 year old Epic out performs.. Thus, the release of the Dragon sensor which i assume will deliver a true 5k image, and then jim can retire.. I honesty don't think Hollywood would have used a Red camera for as many features as they have if "Rolling Shutter" was an issue... They aren't 5D mark 2's... Lol.. So a global shutter is cool, yes, but not enough to persuade me into it with another $5000 to buy a recorder... Especially when a Red One is $4000, and people are selling quality accessories to make it shoot ready for nothing.. You have a camera with the acquisition defacto of true cinema resolution for under $10,000 top to bottom if you shop around.. I honestly wish they'd just keep making them at this price, because honestly, until somebody could compete price wise with that level of performance, they would monopolize the whole block.. They probably already do though.
