  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Attitude adjustment...

I just heard an explosion...it was the sound of all the heads at Sony, Canon, Panasonic and ARRI exploding at once...
Yeah they are all probably reading this and there will be silence followed by... "those *#%^$*!!!"
Add in the expletive you think works best, they are not going to be able to match these prices without taking a loss.

I'd say this announcement was more drastic for R1 and Epic than Scarlet

Between group 1. & 3. they seem to have gotten the best of the Scarlet.

Right now the safest camera to invest in is the R1 & Epic IMO

On one hand I like the new prices, on the other I am not so much of a fan of how drastically they were cut. I think it will hinder the rental market a little bit. You can't really charge as much per day to rent the camera if the purchase price is that much lower.

Hey now, that's enough of your dissent! Just move along with the others.

Quick question:

I know that the upgrade path from Scarlet to Epic isn't quite confirmed just yet, but...

There will now be (at least) 4 categories of Scarlet owners.

1. November 3rd
2. Pre-price change Owners
3. BT (pre-price change) Owners
4. Post-Price Change Owners

It's likely too soon to say -- but...

Question: Will the upgrade path be consistent from 1 through 3?

The reason I ask is because if the BT owners share the same (what I assume) costlier upgrade path as #4, then it would sort of affect the value of the #3s.

It's a REALLY GREAT deal if it's 1-3/4, it's a GREAT deal if it's 1-2/3-4.

So, either way, great.

Phil

I'm interested in this too. As a BT owner, I'm hoping there aren't penalties for getting in on a good deal...

You guys did it again... This is huge and i just don't know what to say more than thank you so much. Thank you for that 1000$-gift, thats really unexpected and generous. I really appreciate that. I know you care about existing customers, but this, as i said, i didn't see it coming. And then, thank you very much to get me a lot closer to a EPIC, because this price-drop makes a real difference for me.

I knew it was the best decision to save up (a long time) and invest into a RED-camera instead of anything else, and today you proved me right one more time.

Again, thanks Jim, Jarred and team RED.

So bummed out. I just purchased an Epic-M...

Paul, I was sitting 5 feet from Michael when he talked to you and I heard him say that he would work with you on it to reach a mutually acceptable plan of action. I would suggest continuing down that path of working with him.

I can understand you being upset but you are already in contact with Michael who is more than willing to work with you. I am sorry if that comes across as "arrogant". We are here to work with you, not against you.

So bummed out. I just purchased an Epic-M and an order totaling around 80k + last week...the Epic brain got here Friday, even though the Scarlet was supposed to come first for some reason the Epic was rushed to me first....hmmmmm......an hour later Jim posted his post that the prices would be dropping. I called my sales rep frantically and was going to send the camera back but I was assured I would get a credit and I shouldnt worry it would all be "taken care of". Let me be clear, the implication was that if you bought an Epic that recently you would get the difference in credit...THE DIFFERENCE WAS THE IMPLICATION..I even explained what I would be doing with that money...buying another Epic......So I opened the box, fired her up for like 20 seconds and turned it off do go back to work.

So now the pricing comes out....wow what a massive drop and Im thinking cool...I think Ill take that credit throw down some more money and get another Epic.....except.....

no...they are only giving me $4000 credit and are going to pocket the $10, 500 left of the difference. $10,500 loss on a camera that I got the day the prices dropped by almost $15,000......This is good business practice????

That to me is beyond shady. It was implied that I would get the full credit as anyone with any sense would think any other company would do in this situatation....but instead the rug was pulled out....I was told I could send the camera back, get charged up to a 30% restocking fee and then take that money and buy another Epic at the new price....huh?!?!?! So you charge a 30% restocking fee on a kid that buys a Scarlet for $10,000 and that same 30% to someone who spends 80k??? Anyone see anything wrong with this? Most companies have a cap on restocking fees for this reason...not Red.

So instead of taking on a new customer, one who just dropped 80k on stuff with them and was about to put in two orders for Meizler modules and would have been a long term customer that actually spent on the higher end stuff .....instead they have totally rubbed me wrong with arrogance and a total disregard for any long standing relationship with a high end paying customer...(just like all the horror stories I had heard from others including Phillip Bloom).

I will be returning everything, paying the criminal restocking fee, and going and taking my money to a professional company that knows how to deal with other professionals that spend real money....Ill give you a hint....this isnt it.

I wanted very much to try and work this out so that they could have my money and I could have two Epics...but I cannot in good conscience just go along with this thievery. So take the restocking fee, and lose another customer that would have spent who knows how many 100's of thousands of dollars in the next 2 years...doesnt seem like a smart long term business plan....this was a unique situation that should have been dealt with as such....but nobody at Red has any power to deal with stuff like this and fix it because the only response was...well Jim posted this online......thats how they get their marching orders....they have to look here online to see what they should do.....most professional companies that cater to creatives are more nimble than that because relationships in this business are everything.
RED should be able to correct this, if you can speak with the right person

I am curious: did you actually try to take this up the line within RED before posting here?
