Wow.

Includes everything: Star Wars, Indiana Jones, ILM, Skywalker Sound, the entire film/media library... http://www.lucasfilm.com/divisions/

Details here: http://thenextweb.com/media/2012/10/30/disney-purchases-lucasfilm-including-the-star-wars-franchise-for-4-05b-in-cash-and-stock/

Star Wars Episode 7 is targeted for release in 2015, with more feature films expected to continue the Star Wars saga. Lucasfilm founder George Lucas will act as a creative consultant for the next film.

This is actually really exciting overall. Very curious to see how the franchises are developed from here on out.

Star Wars = Groundhog Day

Hope some new Directors get a chance for these new Star Wars flicks.

Iger has made some crazy deals under the Mouse house.

Will we be able to get the original films without the CGI crap on them on blu ray??

As the sole owner George Lucas gets $2 billion in cash and $2 billion in Disney stock. Amazing.

I really hope Disney doesn't slash the prices on all the Star Wars films because I have so much invested in the films and have barely made my money back in rentals. I'm a video store that rents out all 35 versions of star wars. Some are collector items and it's not fair for Disney to piss off the rental stores. What am I going to tell my wife, "sorry honey, we can't eat anymore" Please Disney do the the right thing!

hahaha great post Bob!

Full circle. Disney buys Pixar from Lucasfilm and allows it to flourish. Now the Disney/Pixar conglomerate is buying Lucasfilm/ ILM from George. The bulk of value or worth here is the Star Wars and Indiana Jones Franchises. I think this is going to be a good thing. Just as long as we don't get another bungled trilogy like the prequels!

I know they say Episode VII will be coming now in 2015... All that I ask is that they don't re-boot the franchise.

Note to self, write a nice letter to disney and request that the special edition versions of the original trilogy be destroyed. Greedo did not fire first, dammit!

Speeking of Greedo, back in 1997 I was hacking around with star wars footage for a demo reel. Only some hard core fans will get some of the ILM gags... but here it is:

In my books, Bob Iger is officially the second best CEO of Disney behind the man himself.

This is a great deal for America too, preserving an important cultural asset under a strongly managed
corporation.

George chose wisely on many levels. Still a smart man, still a good deal for Disney shareholders.

Don't forget the Marvel part of that equation :)

And the muppets. Now we can finally have the ultimate Wizard of Oz musical with Kermit, Buzz, Iron Man, Mickey, and Vader. Wait, isn't Charlie Brown and the Peanuts part of Disney too??

Surprise Hanna Barbara characters aren't around as much. Yabbadabba Doo!

Careful, it wasn't disney that allowed pixar to flourish, It was Steve Jobs. Once they were successful they were less bought by disney, than disney essentially handed most of the reigns to pixar in exchange for ownership. Having said that. I want to work on a star wars movie, so as long as they keep making them, i will be happy in the hope that one day, i will be working on one.

Still, when I see this: http://youtu.be/YyqlTi7lkhY I think: Lucas looks tired, even anxious... can't really put my finger on it... Do you think the criticism of INDY 4 and the prequels took to him? I remember him saying that after StarWars he would so like to do different movies... not much happened, did it? (Red Tails didn't really take off)
