Onlookers from a building rooftop cheer and take pictures as the Space Shuttle Endeavour made it's last flyby before landing at Los Angeles International Airport.

After 25 missions, 4,671 orbits around the Earth, and 296 days in space the Space Shuttle Endeavour is now retired and ready to take up it's new home as an exhibit at the California Science Center in Los Angeles.

Shot on Red Scarlet X #316. 600mm.

Thanks Justin!

A bit hazy today in LA and the heat distortion certainly came into play.

I hear Vincent Laforet was nearby with his Epic and an 800mm too.

Nice Aaron. I was really torn as I didn't know exactly where it would do it's flyby near the Hollywood sign. I've seen some great shots from the more east side of the sign.

Thanks for posting the still and motion vision.

As a groundfowl on the other side of the world I enjoyed seeing real time vision beyond news grabs. Even on vimeo compression, you can see wing flex through low altitude lumps on the air. Kudos to the pilot also. Flying an extended low altitude run at slower speed with spoilers out on a significantly reconfigured aircraft is a greater testament to skill and planning than is readily apparent to the onlooker.

Nice boys, I'm in Austin shooting a feature and was super bummed I missed this, but you got it good....thank you, thank you thank ou!

Where'd you stake out Phil- at street level, top of the bluff on Imperial Ave, or on the slope in between?

El Segundo, 7 stories up on top of a studio I do work for occasionally. In front of Northrop, behind Mattel. I didn't really want to go where the press mob was at the street level as my goal was to get the NASA logo and United States clearly visible with a crowd. There was another great opportunity that was just too far away. There were around 100 or so folks on one of the control towers at LAX and that would have been a really powerful shot during the flyby.

I should add that the building in that particular shot is the the Hughes Direct TV building just south of LAX. Which makes sense with all those dishes.

Hughes used to have a MSG facility near where I grew up and I did an internship one summer as a teenager. Missile, satellites, and big computers. Fond memories.

Just kidding. :) Nice stuff. What an amazing experience it must have been!
