  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Rokinon Cine lenses are here!!

Thanks for the photos Mike... seems like the 24 is soft wide open, while the 35mm is actually pretty sharp for a Rokinon.

I've got a 24mm Cine on the way and I'll shoot a frame wide open to compare sharpness... perhaps you might have gotten a soft copy, but we'll see.

He didn't shoot wide open. Plus the focus may have been off.

I definitely want a set of these; not sure if the cines are worth the extra dough though (doubly so because the stills versions can be found used for even less dollars.) Tough call since they're already cheaper than anything else out there. I've heard the rotation is still ~140degs, but what pitch are the gears, by the way?

Standard cine 0.8 pitch gear.

Simple wide open bokeh/deep focus source shots attached here.

Just loving that nearly perfect spherical bokeh. I'll be milking this lens for a long time.

EDIT: 35mm Rokinon T1.5 Cine

No, the lens is sharp. It may have been off a bit on the focus. I find the 5.0 screen tough to focus with sometimes. fstops are all guess, I did not think to look at them. It does not translate into the metadata.

Anyone want anything specific? I can shot other things.

Also I thought I'd add. I have the 85 photo lens, and the focus ring is tight. The cine lens works well, very smooth, also the aperture is supper smooth. I think this lens will be great doing interview in the partial cloud, I can just keep a hand on it.

Hi bought the 35mm Rokinon and tested it against my Nikon 35mm 1.4. I felt the Rokinon was a touch sharper/less halation (when wide open), but I liked the look and Bokeh on the Nikon much more. I returned the 35mm Rokinon. Maybe others with the cine version have a different experience.

Has anyone shot any CUs of people with the 35mm? I really want to see how faces look.

Not the 35, but here is the 24mm

Thanks, Michael.

I like shooting wide CUs, usually around 27/28. 40mm is the longest I'll go, 50mm is boring. That 24 looks pretty good. Not too distorted for my tastes.

Michael, was that with or without lens hood?

good question, to be honest I don't know. I think not, as I did not put the lens on, and we were doing a lot of things. Now I'd like to retry the test. I noticed the lens was very soft.

Hmmm. Thanks Michael. I'll have to check with the dealer and try the one without fixed hood to know what happens. If someone beats me to it, great ;) because for me it will take probably over a week or so to find the time to go there....

Michael,

Could you be more specific about the lens softness? Was this just wide open or generally.

Yes, I hit the record button, so I can show you. Mind you this comes with a caution. I did not put much effort into getting the settings right. I saw the distortion and knew it was not a lens for me.
