  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Sensors...

Oh man,
I hope that dragon can improve the frame rate performance of scarlet (@ 4k and 5k... 6k is a mirage) and the latitude.
But honestly I'm very satisfied with the "old mx" ... It has changed my life. Thanks RED!

L.

To improve the frame rate of Scarlet, buy an Epic. It's the only difference, really. (though the Epic color matches the accessories better :) I have both, and they are almost interchangeable.

Looking forward to Dragon, though the present dynamic range is already great. I did struggle with DR on the Red One, but Epic/Scarlet are superb. Even better imaging is mind-boggling.

Most companies would relish the opportunity to leverage a monumental sensor into a new camera model. We don't.

I can only hope that our customers fully realize what this means...

That's why we're here. I got a sense at NAB 2006 that there was vision happening, and it's great to see you following through.
Realized and appreciated.

Is this a camouflaged reference to the possible fact that the remake of Blade Runner will be shot with a Dragon sensor? ;-) ;-)

Martin Beek.

I watched c-beams glitter in the dark near Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.

The incredible thing is that the Dragon sensor is an upgrade. You don't have to buy a new camera to get the advantages of the Dragon sensor. You just need to own an EPIC or Scarlet.

Paying 6K$ (or probably more in Europe) IS almost like buying a new camera for Scarlet owners...

Nevertheless, VERY exciting indeed!

I CAN ONLY SAY THAT IT'S AMAZING TO BE PART OF THE DAY WHEN SOME PEOPLE GOT TOGETHER AND SAID "LETS BUILD A DIGITAL CINEMA CAMERA THE BEST WAY POSSIBLE..." WHILE ALL THE OTHER PEOPLE ON THE INDUSTRY WERE SAYING "LET'S MAKE OUR CAMERAS MAKE US MONEY THE BEST WAY POSSIBLE"......

THANK YOU!

Jim, The Dragon sounds as though it is going to create amazing footage. But I have two cameras and probably will only have enough in reserve to upgrade one of them to Dragon when my time rolls around. And even if I do have enough cash to upgrade both cameras, they will be enough of a distance apart in the queue so that I will be shooting for probably a few months on two different sensors. What I'm asking is, have you done enough testing yet to determine if the two different runs of footage will inter-cut seamlessly?

What I really don't understand is why Red is able to figure out 16 stops of DR when Sony, with probably the biggest R&D budget in the world, was only able to come up with 14 (and some say 13) for the D800 (Nikon fanboys : yes, it's a Sony sensor, get over it)

Yes, its absolutely amazing and very much appreciated!

I've gone through 4 Nikons since I've gone digital only because I wanted a sensor upgrade.

My favorite movie, and the reason I pursued this path.

"I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion."

"All those moments will not be lost in time like tears in rain, thanks to the Dragon sensor. Time to shoot RED..."

Honestly that'd make pretty badass tv/video commercial for the Dragon sensor upgrade. I'm sure Ridley wouldn't mind, as he's probably gonna shoot the upcoming Blade Runner 2 on a few mighty Epic Dragons. Sorry, I'm just kidding around here, but I'd absolutely love some kind of movie-themed Red commercials in the future, especially with all these new major motion pictures shot on Red, coming out almost every month... When the Dragon arrives I imagine Red to have a friendly seat next to the good ol' 35mm like this and simply say "I got this", just so Film knows that the future of movies is in safe hands.

Reday to activate fire breathing apparatus upon the world.
Must get Dragon. Villagers run for your lives.

And this is why we are here. And not at ARRI or SONY.
This whole way of thinking is what I hated about camera makers from day 1. My blood is RED.
