How is everyone feeling about Samyang/Rokinon new line of cine lenses? I have both Rokinon 35mm and 85mm and just love them.

No differences. Plenty of manufacturers will let third party companies sell their products under whatever names they want... but I don't know what other company does this with lenses.

Can anyone compare from actual experience, the Rokinon lens and Nikkor AIs Lenses? Seems like to build up a set of Nikkors and have them cinevised would be around the same cost as the Rokinon set? I am aware of the reverse focus direction on the Nikkors, more looking for info on image quality.

@ Terry, how much is it costing you to get them cinevize? I only been shooting with DSLR, so can anyone tell me what's the difference between cine lenses and normal photography lenses? seems like cine lenses aperture are clickless and it just have gear on it for follow focus.

AIS Lenses are wonderful - there are more focal lengths, and the coatings and optical designs might yield a slightly softer, grittier, more vintage and at the same time cooler/greener (as opposed to warmer) look on the MX sensor.

Rokinon/Samyang use Aspherical Elements which affect bokeh, dimensionality and feel of the image.

I must say I love both - and really you should be able to pick them both up cheap enough to own both sets if you have the need to shoot a variety of different stuff.

I love the look of my Rokinons - and I think if they could do an 18mm or 16mm f1.8, 50mm 1.2 or 1.4, and a 100mm 1.8 or 2.0 we would truly have a full set of contemporary aspherical superspeed lenses.

I'm sure its already been thought of by some different companies - and I was proposing that someone do a Cinevized (and/or PL) version of these lenses back in like 2009 or 2010. But seriously - a Cam driven set of these optics with interchangeable Eos/PL mount for under 2500 a lens would likely fly off the shelves.

the 24mm 1.4 is my personal favorite of the set - it kind of gushes feeling (for me anyway) - but the 35 really has some smack to it too.

Never used the 14mm - but thats because the 11-16 covers that speed and length already.

Anyway - neat stuff - can't wait to see what they come up with next.

So I can buy a Duclos for 3000. Or send a lens I buy for 800 bucks and pay 250 and I get the same lens? Doesn't make any sense.

I think he is thinking of de-clicking and fitting with gears. Not the case for the Tokina which ia completely re-housed by Duclos.

Hi, I am getting into this conversation a little late but are you discussing cinevising the Rokinon lenses for $250 or buying the models that have already been modified by the manufacturer? I know the 35 & 8mm are supposed to be available by August 15 from B&H for $50 over the cost of the still lens. A no brainer as far as I'm concerned.
