Trying some different rigging options with our Scarlet and realized that I need a cable that doesn't have both connectors at 90 degrees. When I looked at red.com for a different cable option I was shocked to see that it cost $240. I know Red has taken some heat for their overpriced SSDs, but an 18 inch cable for $240? Is it made of solid gold?

Does anyone know of a 3rd party option?

Welcome to professional gear, get used to it. If you bought the parts and made it your self, I would be amazed if you could do it in under three hours, and the parts would cost you $215. Red's cables are cheap. By the way, look up the price of gold. If they were made of gold it would be the best deal ever.

I have a 5" cable that cost me tens of thouands of dollars to make.
I can only wish that it was available from RED for $240

LEMO connectors are pretty much their weight in gold, even if you're buying in bulk like Red does.
It is certainly unfortunate, but when you have two LEMO connectors with that many pins inside, it's an expensive cable to make.

Didn't realize these LEMO connectors were so pricey. Still...hard to fork out so much for such a short cable. I think I'll be a little more careful how I bend them and where I store them. :)

Lemo connectors are typically about $40 each. If there's two of them, plus cable, plus some labor to solder the cable (and these are not easy cables to solder), then you have to test the cable, I can see where it could be pricey. $240 sounds a bit high, though.

Obviously it's no help to new Red owners, but I do think Red deserves some praise for keeping the LCD and EVF cables the same, with each other and between the Red One, Epic, and Scarlet. I liked being able to keep the cables I already had when I traded in the R1 for the Epic.

Nick, how did you come to the $215 total for parts for this cable? I looked online and couldn't find any prices.

Doh, my $40 price was for the normal 4-pin or 5-pin Lemos! I don't doubt the 10-pin or higher Lemos are much higher. If that's the case, then I don't think $240 for the cable is out of line, especially if the parts alone are over $160.

If you buy 50+ it's $66 for each LEMO in Nick's link.... That's for me, a consumer, online. I'm sure RED is getting them for $40 or less. Still pricey, but I really doubt the total parts for this cable cost more than $100.

found this guy on ebay. seem like its gonna do the job for a good price. he doesn't speak english just german but o well. ordered a couple of cables from him. since what i have is to short for comfort. oh yh link "http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/ph_nachrichtentechnik/"

The RED cable prices are reasonable and dependable.

When a cable fails, you replace it.

Your calbes are the LIFELINE for your camera and the quality of images it produces reliably...you are cutting corners in the wrong places.

Think Red's cable price is expensive? Try replacing a new car key with a transponder chip to start your car or truck. Auto manufacturers make 100's of thousands of those, and they are more expensive than any Red cable I know of. Both the camera and the car don't work very well with out them. I choked too till I put the cable in prospective.

Have to agree with you there. Car fob prices are silly. That's why my cracked Toyota fob is glued to a paperclip on my key chain. :)

I'd really love a Lemo extension cable for power. I have a longer cable for my Viewfactor plate but taking it apart to change it out is annoying. I'd pay $240 for a simple 4-6ft extension cable.
