So I'm basically asking for you guys to give me ideas of what equipment to get, buy equipment I mean Tripod, Head, plate to use so that I can have 15mm bars on etc. I dont want to pay too much but obviously I want it to be stable with everything on, by the way I dont currently have a RED camera but I'm saving up for one but i would like to get the tripod and all that gear before i actually get the camera as i will be able to go out and film straight away and I will be able to use the gear with my 500D I have at the moment so I can get used to carrying the weight around and everything.

I know this may be posted in the wrong place but it does relate to the Scarlet as I am looking for gear that is stable with the Scarlet on, hope you guys can help!

if u r on a budget:
Choose the tripod head which can hold at least 15kg of weight. The cheapest is probably Manfrotto with new 509HD head.
The cheapest support/rig for Epic/Scarlet is by eBay seller: gini778. Quality is superb. Don't buy its follow focus, cause probably it won't be compatible with any matte box, cause it has a huge handle.
Follow Focus and Matte box on budget is Shoot35.com

The very first thing you need to do is set a budget for each item you wish to purchase. That way people making suggestions for $5000.00 heads can be avoided if your budget is only $800.00

The next thing I would suggest is a head with continuously variable drag, since you will be using it with little HDSLR cameras as well.

Good Luck!

Dave

What ive been looking at is Sachlter FSB 6 (75mm Fluid Head), with Miller Toggle DV 2 Stage legs, then get a Genus Hot Plate Professional Adapter Bar system so that I can use a Genus Bravo Deluxe follow focus system.

Would this be sensible or what would you recommend?

I've got Sachtler Video 18 S1 head with their CF 2 HD tripod and I'm more than pleased with the performance.

I was about to get Oconnor's 1030D head, but the fact that it is currently in backorder and Sachtler's ability to take up to 40lbs determined my choice.

On film sets it's either Oconnor or Sachtler (rarely there is Cartoni), so if you invest in either of these brands you just can't lose, both are great.

Have you ever used Miller Tripods and if so whats your thoughts?

Miller Arrow series was my initial choice, but I've changed my mind, primarily because I was planning to spend no more than $3000 on a head, but then realized that I may as well invest another additional $2000 to $3000 in a head that will last for many many years.

Just been looking at the Sachtler ENG 2 D Tripod Legs and Sachtler ENG 2 D Heavy Duty Aluminum Tripod Legs, both very good and hold a lot of weight the ENG 2 D holds up to 35KG and the HD one holds up to 90KG if it was up to me I would get the HD one but unfortunately it is just out of my price range so looking at the ENG 2 D. Anyone else used it before?, still looking at heads though

Well I was advised to write in this Forum as it would allow more people to find it/comment on it. And I cannot delete them so its not my fault/problem no more.

No worries, just that it tends to fragment the discussion somewhat, you might suggest a Miller head in this thread while in the other one someone's already suggested it and maybe given details. I thought that might actually be forum rules, not to post in multiple forums, I know it is on some forums.

Just to further the advice - if it were me I would always buy a better bit of gear secondhand rather than an inferior one new, especially with mechanical stuff like tripods. I got a Sachtler Video 20 mkIII and Hotpod tripod a while back for £600 - that would knock the socks off anything in that price range new.

I've already looked around a lot of websites for 2nd hand equipment but I cant find any tripods that are suitable for what i need it for (cant handle much weight), also I prefer to buy brand new as in the past I have brought 2nd hand equipment and it has been a waste of money (the locks on the legs were wearing, which I know isnt too bad a problem but I didnt want it to slip when i had a big lens on it), but thanks for the imput.

Have you tried BBList? There're several Ronford Baker F4 kits with tall and short legs for around £1100-1500, also Sachtler Video 20 with legs and spreader £1750 - I'd take either of these over any of the low grade Sachtlers any day of the week! The Ronford stuff in particular you won't have to worry about dodgy legs locks, trust me, you can hammer nails in with that stuff!

I've never been on that website, until just now and all I can say is I wish i had more money! I know obviously I wouldn't be in the state of asking people about equipment if i did have more, but there is a Varicam AJ-HPX2700 priced at 12,000 which is a really good price to say they used to cost loads brand new and it is industry spec. Thanks for telling me about this site.

As I posted on Page 4 of the thread that Mark Phelan linked, with my Red One and Epic cameras I use two different 100mm Miller heads, interchangeable with two different sets of Miller legs.

Link: http://www.reduser.net/forum/showth...ler-or-Cartoni/page4&highlight=miller+tripods

Heads: Miller Arrow 55 and Miller Compass 25
Legs: Miller Sprinter II CF 2-stage mid-spreader, and Miller Solo 1505 CF spreaderless

I love my Miller equipment - well designed, durable, and affordable compared to other maker's offerings.

One of the problems with 3CCD cameras like the HPX2700 though is that even a standard lens like an HJ22 will set you back at least £10,000! Being able to stick stills lenses on the Scarlet is such a massive benefit. The HPX2700 is a terrific cameras, I used to own one, but at the end of the day do you really want to be shooting 720?

I know that is one of the bad reasons but I want to be a camera for TV so it wouldnt really matter that i'm shooting 720P as they broadcast at lower resolution than that dont they? and I would like one of them and a Scarlet the reason for wanting a scarlet is so that I can make short films and hire the camera (with me as an operator) and earn money that way
