  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RedMote - Please Red

I just updated both of my redmotes to 3.1.8 a few days ago. However just before I started my update, I went to charge my Redmotes since they tend to trickle out over a few days.
Previously i had tested both of them in a slew of power arrangements (on on camera, one on wall power, laptop power, external battery power...) and both were running very well http://www.reduser.net/forum/showth...-to-recharge&p=1029460&viewfull=1#post1029460

However now one of my redmotes (previous to the update) wont charge. i have plugged it into wall, into laptop, and now its on the back of my epic. the upper left light blinks red when plugged into power but will not turn on, period. it will only turn on when connected to the epic, but it shows no life in the battery, which seems strange since it was charged overnight. as soon as i disconnect it the redmote shuts down.

any ideas? im about 10 minutes from dropping it off at red studios. very frustrating as this will be at least the second time i have sent it to red in about two months.

just upgraded to camera firmware 3.3, and can't connect my red mote anymore, the camera doesn't find it, tried the new red mote firmware and 3.1.8, both don't work. Somestimes the camera sees the red mote and i can pair it, but didn't get a connection yet... what are my options?

I'm noticing after the last 4 firmware upgrades that the REDmote's signal has been getting weaker and weaker. I used to have 300 ft range in firmware 2.0.8, now in 3.3.3 it's less the 30 ft.

i have consistently had poor performance, but after the antenna upgrade i noticed a significant increase in range. I went from about 3 feet to 50 feet. that being said, it took a lot longer and more tried for the redmote to actually connect.
i also realized that the signal would go from 5 bars to 1 or two simply based on my hand placement while holding the redmote. i also have the cage surrounding the epic, i dont know if this changes the signals range, but when i flip the monitor down over the antenna area, the signal strength drops instantly. you probably are experiencing exactly what you think may be the problem but perhaps its also the configuration of your goods outside of the body...?

Upgrade your REDmote. Follow the instructions. There will be an update for extending the range coming soon.

Jim

oh, have i missed anything ?
has anyone an idea where i can find this upgrade ?
i use my redmote 1.5 m away from the camera and then i,m loosing wireless conection...
:-(
i think it will end up in sending cameras and redmote back to red for checking that...

I just got my new redmote and I have the same red blinking light problem, it also turns on only when directly connected to my scarlet...

My REDMOTE works at a good 50 feet away, and it still has 3 bars of connection showing on the monitor. Range is not a problem with mine. The problem lies with the battery life, which is short, and does not charge all the way. Even the first time I charged it, it only charged to about 70%.

The second problem is with docking and undocking. I have the latest firmware so I cannot upgrade further. When I dock the REDMOTE, it loses signal and takes sometimes 10 minutes to establish connection again, if I undock the MOTE, it will connect much faster but then the battery runs out in just 2 hours. I was so excited to get it and be able to AC like a pro, but it is a pain in my butt. I bought a lanyard to hang around my neck with it, and it works really great there. I get great range, no problem in that area, until I dock it because the battery is dying.

Just getting a report from the field that our virtually brand-new Redmote, that is running 3.1.8 won't charge anymore. I have the Red backpack, so the Redmote never connects physically to the Epic, but I have a USB/wall AC adapter that has worked in the past. Now THAT's not charging the Redmote!
Help Red, fix this apparently very defective piece of gear, or start issuing some refunds.

I control my camera from upstairs, where all the computers are, so I just plug it into a USB.

But, I was thinking about finding a portable battery based USB charger, probably a lot available for cell phones, for when I'm on-location. Could probably run the USB cable out of one of my pockets. Less than ideal, but ... probably workable?

BTW - the MadlyFins lanyard works quite well http://www.madlyfins.com/product.php?id_product=18 - and my connectivity is good for the 20 -30 feet I need it to stay connected.

If they add 'delete last clip' capability, it will definitely be one of my best RED purchases.

Les, Yeah I got the Lanyard and it works really well. A USB plug in would be totally awesome, if I could get it to connect while it's charging. I wish that we could format the SSD from the REDMOTE. To delete one clip at a time would be awesome. I wish so bad that the REDMOTE was more workable, I love it so much!
