Just saw these listed on eBay and wondered if anyone had experience with or advice?

I used ciecio7's mounts (PL & OCT-19) on Panny M4/3's. Fine for the job and the kit used (AF's and GH's).

However, RED's PL mount on the Epic/Scarlet is in a league of it's own. So, as others have said, RED's approved/supported mounts will at least be a safer bet.

Maybe
ciecio7 could try for RED approval?

Until then, I'm looking at the Allstar as an interesting alternative (I like teh idea of interchangeable mounts) - it's RED approved.

Until then, sticking with my trusty PL :)

In all honesty, anyone who is seriously considering getting an Aluminum PL mount for their Epic/Scarlet should rethink otherwise.

You'll be very limited as to how heavy of a lens you can strain on that mount because as we all know, good PL glass is heavy. Also, Titanium won't flex nor will it contract or expand depending on the temperature. Last thing you want is a lens not fitting on your mount. And say in the future you want to use PL mounts with some sort of meta data system or /i technology like Cooke has, you won't get the benefits.

I've met a couple of early Epic operators that were severely pissed when RED came out with their Epic-M and came with the aluminum PL mount. There were alot of fitting and flexing issues with cinema glass. There's a reason why RED only sells a Titanium PL mount now, they've learned well.

Save up your money and get something that'll last forever.

The RED One had aluminum PL mount on it and in the 7000+ cameras that were sold not one flexed or failed AFAIK. Otherwise RED would not make them that way.
You want to have the "Ti" moniker part of your gear list?- fine, but it hasn't got much to do with the engineering.
Yes I'm very familiar with tensional strength , thermal expansion coefficients of all these materials, etc, etc,- it's my job.

I never directed anything at you Jacek.

I'd much rather purchase something that RED designed and manufactured, especially when it pertains to mounting optics on the body, than something that may or may not have been approved. There was a reason why RED doesn't ship the Epic/Scarlet with the aluminum mount anymore, it just wasn't up to the task.

Just my thoughts,
I know red does not approve. But I find it hard to think that a mount would damage the camera as long as it's in no way in contact with the electronics. Even if the mount would bend or brake or expand / contract dempending on heat the chance is slim that it would affect the camera body. Offcourse a digital titanium mount is forst choice but if the money is tight what do you do... So I think (or hope) that one day red should look these mounts as any other third part gear, like batteries rod mounts etc.

A use on your own risk kind of thing.

Nothing personal at you either- don't worry  I just deal with design issues day in, day out and have for over 20 years. Ti is "uber cool" no doubt, but not really necessary....
(I prefer stainless steel, just as strong, easier to machine, much more reasonable)

The seller states in his auction that the mount is RED approved - can anyone from RED verify this?

Hello RED users

Some time ago we sent our mounts for Epic/Scarlet cameras to RED for testing. We've recently got answer from mr Chad Koeller that: " Our engineers have finished testing your lens mounts and they appear to be OK from a mechanical standpoint" .
I hope that is enough proof of theirs quality.

Valid points from all parties...thanks for all of the input

and thanks for chiming in, krysztof, your mounts look great

I ended up getting a PL mount from krysztof, and it's really solid. Well made, precise, back focus was perfect. FYI.

I have other mounts from him. He makes great stuff. Poland is the new Germany of machining ;-)

I have an M43 to PL adapter and it's solid as hell. I would highly recommend this guy.

For your Scarlet/Epic? I'm so paranoid about the sensors... no issues there...? What protects them, is it just an empty gap or a pocket in the metal? I'd love to get a PL just for fun since I don't have an PL lenses and I'd only be using them for 'real' jobs where I'd rent, but for home use, I have a bunch of various Nikon primes, so I got that mount from RED.
