  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DAVINCI RESOLVE and ***HACKINTOSH***

Hi Lugi,

CUDA Driver Version : 4.1.28
GPU Driver Version : 7.4.10 270.05.05f01

Debug Pref:
LsManager.3.NumGPUs = 3
LsManager.3.GPUMapping = 0 1 2
LsManager.3.GPUMappingEnable = 1

Regards
Arun

TRY WITH THIS:

LsManager.3.NumGPUs = 2
LsManager.3.GPUMapping = 1 2
LsManager.3.GPUMappingEnable = 1

Hi Luigi,

So I Have a i7 3930k with 1 quadro 4000 for editing and no other cards. It is very fast but i wanted to do some grading and I am getting a error in Davinci saying "no open cl". Is this because the quadro 4000 doesn't support "open cl". If not would 2 gtx580 (one for interface and one for power) cards work instead of the quadro? I believe the gtx580 supports "open cl". Any Help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot

Dana

filmer. the quadro should work as a gpu fine but resolve needs a regular graphics card for the gui. they recommend a gt120 but yea 2x gtx 580 would be awesome.

Hello

I've just discovered this thread. It seems particularly relevant knowing the Mac Pro will only be updated next year.

I have a naive question : does MACHETE do all the work installing OS X, or do I have to follow your tutorial in addition to some tutorial like this one from tonymacx86 ?

If anyone can help with a couple of questions regarding a hackintosh build, I'd much appreciate it.

I'm currently in the process of building a hackintosh (foremost as a test to see if it's feasible, if it doesn't work out it'll end up as a PC workstation). My first question is does it help with Resolve to have a fast GUI card? So should I get a GTX560 for GUI and a 3GB GTX 580 for CUDA or will I get the same performance if I just get the cheapest available card for GUI?

I was also wondering if it would be useful to just get two GTX 580 cards and set them for SLI. I know OS X doesn't support SLI, but will setting them up hurt working in Resolve? Will it still be able to use them separately (one for GUI and one for CUDA)?

update on the build

update on the build

Just wanted to post a big thank you to Luigi. I built one of these systems for a friend last August. Luigi was very helpful and the system has been running Resolve in the studio now for about 9 months. Here is a link to a photo of the inside of the case... Its nothing fancy but performs fantastic@! https://www.dropbox.com/s/yqhqla2lm2g7w9m/IMG_20120618_164044.jpg

Jaakko, I don't think you will be able to run this configuration with SLI enabled. My advice is to set it up without SLI. Choose 3 fast single core GPU's noted as working (search in this forum). Once the system is running OK, make an image of your hard drive and then experiment with other configurations (like SLI or slower GUI card). I assumed the CUDA architecture makes use of the GUI card also for rendering so I went with 3x GTX 470's. -John

Hello Luigi.

EDIT:- This is a bit confusing. I am using Machete 3.
I install Chameleon x58 on the Lion partition
I install 570 update on the Boot partition.

Unlike Machete 2, there is no option to install an Extra folder on Lion partition. Is that the problem ?

I am using a PC case that only allows for 2 cards. So I have 2x EVGA cards. One 560 Ti and one 560 448 core.
I am using sockets 3 and 5.

During the boot it hangs at
[PCI Configuration Begins]

So I used npci=0x2000

Now it got to a white window with a spinning sphere.

Any ideas :-(

I know its only supported for 3 cards, but Im hoping there is an easy fix as I do not want to buy another case and PSU to make this work..

Ciao!

Anmol,,, only 3 gpu is supported...
if you want 2 gpu try to delete dsdt and boot..
but you must make new dsdt.

thanks

Thanks for the reply. I'm not actually using luigi's build and dsdt, so I'm going with just 2 GPUs. I did end up getting two GTX580s as the price difference to a 560+580 wasn't that much and I should be able to use both cards for CUDA in After Effects even if Resolve can't take advantage of a faster GUI card.

Luigi,

Will it work if I use a random GPU in the third socket ?
Like a 8500T or a 7600GS ?

Just to make sure there are 3 GPUs ?

Jaakko,
SLi is not supported in osx...
gtx 580 is very fast gpu .. 2 is better for After and DAvinci ;)

Anmol,
no no use different GPu.. use same GPu is more better..

Luigi

OK I will buy another 560 EVGA.
What PSU and case did you use ?

It has a larger form factor than an ATX board.

for 2 800w for 3 is better 1100
Raccomandation , install last driver nvidia for gtx 5xx

wow.

I have have to get a new case, new PSU and another card :-(

I think I will have to try another method.
I will Try to install lion with 8500 gt in slot 1 and then add 2x 560 tis in slots 3 and 5.
I cannot use slot 7 with my case..

Any tips for me ?

EDIT:- I do not have any Extra/ folder or a dsdt in either Lion or Boot.

Do I have to download Machete v1 and install Extra and Chameleon from there ?

I used Chameleon from v2 and added 560 support from v3.
