We Won. Welcome the return of the R rated big budget blockbuster. We missed you.

All is right with the world.

With the Avengers, the Dark Knight Rises, Skyfall, Django Unchained, Gravity, Looper, The Hobbit and now a hard R Prometheus, 2012 is the gift that keeps on giving.

Yes!!! I have a dream that in a parallel universe James Cameron directed Jurassic Park and it was R. I'd see that.

Well I wanted to do Rape of a Beauty as a Rated PG17, but some how just din't felt right... Just kidding of course, its going to be rated "R" as any film that was intended to be should be, if there is to be violence there needs to be violence, the fact of trying to tone it down to bring in more audiences is simply WRONG and a STUPID market plot, that serves no good to the story.

... exciting ... talk "leader" - back to authentic ... (!) ... love it ..

Quoted from http://www.empireonline.com/news/story.asp?NID=33510

"The question is, do you go for the PG-13, [which] financially makes quite a difference, or do you go for what it should be, which is R?
Essentially, it's kinda R."

"It's not just about the blood, it's about ideas that are very stressful. I'm not an idiot, but I'll do everything I can to get the most aggressive film I can."

Next up...... A James Bond film that is Rated R.

I wish.

I still don't get that "the more violence the better" thing... but each to his own... let's be manly and watch some blood...

"let's be manly and watch some blood"

You hit the nail on the head.

It's not that we (fans) think the movie will be better with more violence (well some probably do) but we want the directors vision to be respected and not be watered down because some bean counter is worried that the tween crowd will not be able to buy tickets. What ever happened to sneaking into movies? If Ridley wants it to be R, it should be R. that is a directorial decision, not an studio exec. decision.

I disagree. If there isn't gore it gives the wrong emotional reaction. It's like a movie about some pimp saying something like "Oh drat that negro beat that woman." It's just absurd since it's not reflective of the reality of the situation.

I think violence should be borderline NC-17. Killing people isn't clean and fun it's disgusting and gut wrenching. I find that PG-13 violence is far more glorified and immoral than R violence since it takes away all of the 'mess'. Similarly if you have a film which is about people fighting for their lives it is substantially harder to get the audience in the same emotional space. Aliens movies are all about escaping a beast hunting down and killing you. If you don't get an R then people are inevitably going to ask whether it's sufficiently emotional.

'ahem' Total Recall

Glad it's an R. I hate Disney bloodless violence. It teaches kids all the wrong messages.
