Dear All,

Ambarish (Rish) Manepalli here, and I'm a new member. I want to first thank this community for their generosity. I've learned so much...
I didn't feel right posting too much before I learned some, so now, I feel ready.

Sam Gordon and myself have been beside ourselves with joy with our Scarlet-X #930 - Ken.
Ken's a she... I'm not completely sure how, but she's lovely. She has a Canon mount, and she's a beast. A rock-solid-beast.

We've been putting her through the paces in Paris as we gear up for the launch of our Paris-based endeavors... Red Paint Films - so watch this space.

There she is... Ken. When I first saw her, I had the biggest, dopiest grin. As did Sam. It was pretty special. Heck, I'm smiling as I look at that picture.
And (Knock on wood) she just works and works on firmware 2.0.5. We've tried Varispeed, focus confirmation, etc. Check!
We've tried about 10 lenses and she mounts them all... um, yes.

We're still refining our rig but we have some key parts that we have used and liked (we have no affiliation with any of these companies, just based on our use).

LiSTAGE
- RED DSMC Tactical Top Plate - totally worth it, so light and solid, so many screw holes, it's a smorgasbord of accessory accessibility !
- Tactical Ribs - Ken has 2, makes a great handle in a pinch
- Cine Arms - brilliant and solid devices, these
- Viewfactor APU IDX battery plate - really well thought out design
- Global Media Pro batteries - good prices, good customer service and solid so far
- We also are digging the Wooden Camera A box - great piece of kit for getting good mics who have real XLR's hooked up (audio has worked great as well!)

Expect this list to be updated and added to (we need a new tripod head, for sure) as we will be adding to this thread with our experiences here in Europe with this bad... girl.

Shoulder RIGGIN'
We have a surprisingly stable and (Really) inexpensive shoulder rig that we'll update once we get some photos.
We took her out and about in Montmartre on our respective shoulders and out in the streets. We've been amazed at how discreet she can be! Rarely a second glance, she's that petite.
Just black-gaff over the Red logos and you're good to go. Don't get us wrong, we love Red for the revolution, but those shiny letters might as well be reflectors.
They do look great in photos though !

COMING UP...

- We're in the process of cutting a short film so we'll definitely post that with more information on us and what we want to do...

- We're also planning a workshop that will present and discuss workflow and how (easy) we've found it.
Especially since Sam and I have a background in tape, media and DSLR cameras we
were expecting it to be 4k raw, 4x the resolution of HD to be tough to handle. But nope. Wrong.
We're intermediate tech heads and we found it no big deal as far as complexity goes...

I'll stop yapping and say that we are truly excited to take our game up to the next level with RED.
The Revolution has been going strong for the past 7 years and we're excited to join in.

Thank you to the community, Red, and to our bomb squad rep McClain, for being such badasses.

Cheers, from myself and Sam Gordon,
Rish

Nice post, Ambarish, looking forward to know more about your experience with "Ken".

May be a stupid question, but — why do you guys cover all the RED logos on the body and the touchscreen with black tape?

so it doesn't depress the Alexa crews nearby

Congrats!

Fish, awesome post. I can't stop grinning myself when looking at mine ;) keep us posted on your work and your rigs :)

All the best!

Not a stupid question at all. In some locations you don't want to be spotted with expensive gear. That's why lots of people also cover canon and nikon logos as well. For one as a bit of security against theft, because most snatchers just look out for the logo, as they have no clue about cameras but just what brands to grab. And sometimes it's nice to just not draw too much attention, when trying to work small handheld in the crowds.

Fish! I like it, I sometimes introduce myself, Rish like Fish

- re: covering logos, I agree with Patrick and Stu, it doesn't depress errant, cocky Alexa crews and it doesn't attract those with sticky fingers.
Those 2 inch high letters are like a signal beacon for "this sh*t's expensive!" perfect for clients, bad for stealth mode. When Ken goes stealth we break out the gaff, when Ken needs to strut her stuff, we let her glitter.

Oh man, sorry hahahaa! :) Stupid auto corrector. Similar as reduser always has been corrected to reducer... But look at what my iPad now has to offer is

Rush

Not bad either! ;)

Well, Rish, have a great day, even if you have to get up so early ;)

Hey Carmine, it's the Gini i-focus that came with a package. Super solid, heavy, positively no backlash... so far.
They're all over ebay but you can snag a package for a much lower price by bidding smartly. I got mine for nearly 60% less than the buy it now.

Congrats Rish, enjoy your Scarlet:thumbup:
Nice pictures and great number!

Thanx guys.
Congrats 4 the camera!

Just to say hi, and thanks for all the great comments, folks. Looking forward to getting our first short out there.
