  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Quick & Dirty Noctilux @ Night Test on Epic-M

wide open that lens shoots pretty good at night. The images seem to contain little to no noise. That makes me think about shooting on a full moon, natural light only. Think you can test that next? Please :)

Hey Will,
I already have some, just haven't had the time to post yet. Are you in the LA area?

Thanks! Keith.

Did you control focus or aperture from EPIC or all was manual since camera do not communicate with the Spacecam mount?

This video knock me of the chair, have to get this lenses......:-)

Hey Andrew, I used the Spacecam Leica LM/ARC Mount.

There's a SLR Magic CINE T0.95/f0.92 coming out this fall (september 2012) that is ~$3,300... supposed to be as good as this (yeah, i know, but even if it *compares* for 1/3 the cost it should be a sound investment.)

http://www.noktor.com/products.php ... On closer inspection, these might not be S35/APS-c... which doesn't make sense given the "CINE" moniker... Nevermind, there are m-mount versions.

That would be the security camera lens that can't resolve shit?

As for the Noctilux... well like everyone else, I'm in lust!

Mike

Well.... I guess you answered my question...

It's worth every god damn penny.

Peter, I would stay as far away form the Spacecam M mount, its everything you don't want a mount to be, we'll have to wait for the RED M mount my friend, but do by al means test it if you wish, for what I have seen is not worth a single dollar of its asking $1,550!!

I have a borowed Noct 50mm f/1.0 and the Spacecam mount and will shoot a test here in LA this week.. Your test is amazing....... I have been shooting film on an Leica M3 with the Noct for some time and love the feeling you get....

You have inspired me to get off my ass

The mount isn't entirely bad but it certainly isn't a RED mount, been using it with their 35mm Nokton mod and the Noctilux,

35mm Nokton mod is practically the only reason I got the SpaceCam mount, the RED one seemed awesome but I was dying to go for 35mm up to 90mm and the Leica M 35mm just won't fit.

On the sad side the 35mm Nokton will only work with the SpaceCam mount apparently so I'm pretty much stuck using the SpaceCam mount, though it is a pretty ok mount, locking mechanism wise...I don't know. I really do enjoy the way the Canon Mount from RED locks, can't wait to see how the Leica one locks!

that's my main issue, the locking mechanism.

9 months, then I also purchased two more form Colleagues in other forums, one of which I'm keeping till lI get my RED m Mount, and the other came from China, delivered strait from Germany, and have unregistered warranty card.

No Andrew, you will only have to pay a minimum based on the declared value, which the last one I sold, was declared and delivered for $399 US, without a single issue by UPS.

So same thing with this last one I'm selling I could just send it with a minimum declared value via UPS, and all you would pay is based on the $399, almost nothing.

Ketch, how long did you wait for delivery?
Do we have to pay duties in US on it or you bought it in US?

Keith, the issues with an adjustable mount, and a mount that needs to be shimmed accordingly to each lens used, is a pain to begin with, and the fact of what I have seen directly form my friend Joseph, shows me clearly that the Spacecam is a very poor designed solution as an M mount, and I would sure not want to dangle my Noctilux lens off of it, not for the style of shooting intended in my first Movie, using this lens, I would want a solid option that worries me not to shoot as I wish, and such option is only given by the RED M mount, solid as a rock, and of a PERFECT FIT!!

Ketch,
I know my issues with this mount, but what have you seen?

Thank you Ketch. Looks like a good deal.
I am still checking on the shallow field of view if it is acceptable for me.

Yes it was Andrew, it just got sold, and I'm keeping the last one for myself, as it will make fantastic night images and some insane Super Shallow DOF images in other, as needed, for our Film in Rome... ;)

However If you were to become serious about it I can put out a word amongst my Photographers colleagues, and see to source an other, I have already sourced 3, and they are gone... ;)

Wish Leica had put more to work, but then again it was already a most popular lens before, and now its insane!!

Thank you Ketch. Looks like a good deal.
