Well my friends, it’s taken a while to get this organized, but our new online course for the Epic and Scarlet is now open.

A lot of the design of this course was due to all of you, so a big “thank you” is in order. There’s a lot to cover, but we’re not going to do it all at once.. Let’s just do the bullet points for now:

  • The basic membership is $28.95 per month. Each term is 3 months long.
  • There are currently about 14 videos online for the Epic and Scarlet. This is already ½ as many as we had for the RED101, and we’re just warming up.
  • We’ll release at LEAST one per week. By the end of your first membership, we’ll have 30 or more.. RED101 had 33.
  • For those of you who prefer DVDs, if we waited for the camera to be far enough along to make a DVD, we’d be waiting another 15-18 months… Too long.
  • Our accessory program is going to be 100x better than it was for the RED101. You will see the results of this in one week. In fact, we have an item we will feature that is SO COOL you will love it. Our members will have 3-4 days to pre order it before anyone else, and there will be a discount that will cover 90% of your first term’s cost. How about that?! (More will come on this later). I hope to do something like this every couple months.
  • As per your request. We will now also be including software tutorials. We will cover REDCine X Pro top bottom. Also DaVinci, Adobe, etc.
  • ALL TUTORIALS made by us will be downloadable. (That’s 98% of them)
  • We will have “Guest Instructors” people who are experts in their field and have cool tutorials to share.. These may also be available in other places, but we’ll host them as well so you don’t have to go searching for them (These will be in ADDIITON to our weekly updates).
  • The RED101 will be updated online for those that need to learn it. You can get a membership that gives you access to all three cameras. That cost $36.95 per month. We had hoped to include it, but right now that’s not possible. Bummer.

You can sign up at www.infotechacademy.net

We will be covering all levels of experience. The online program allows us the freedom to evolve with the camera, and our members.. It's going to be a lot more rewarding than a DVD.. For all of us.

You will be able to suggest tutorials and we will most likely follow those suggestions. After all, we work for you.
Ok. So that’s the short of it. My thanks to Jim, Jarred, Ted, and everyone at RED who is always so supportive. Also a special shout to Jason! We’ll have a more formal space to announce stuff from later.. But I wanted to throw this out for now..

Sounds totally awesome Jay... thanks!

By the way, some of you were asking some of you were asking if we've done anything on HDRx.. The answer is yes.. We're covering that from the camera side, from RedCine X and even DaVinci.

There's one more video to make, then we'll move onto the next thing.

Kwan.. I think we will get to this.. Stephen at Technica and I spoke about this at lenght about a year ago. I know they would support this.. But I have to be honest, I think we need to cover just about every other part of the cameras before we move into 3D.. That said... I hear ya.

Great idea, def worth $30 a month for 3 month minimum correct?

I love that you will take suggestions and make new tutorials based on user requests.

What about support for questions/clarification issues? E-mail support at all?

Registered and loving it so far. Definitely love that I can download (almost) all of the videos and watch them on my iPhone (going to be gone all day so I can still watch them).

A few tutorials I would definitely like to see are:

1. Canon Mount Functionality: Going over the different options, switching controls over the lens, Focus options, all that jazz.
2. Side Handle Operation: Button Layout, Customizing buttons, etc.
3. FCPX Workflow - RCX to FCPX back to RCX or Davinci. Quickest ways to do this.
4. High Frame Rate shooting - Is speed ramping even available yet? If so how to do that and everything else with it.

Thanks again for all of the hard work you've put into these videos.

Just signed up. Great idea.

I am there already. Finally somebody came up with this, I am looking forward to accessorizing my scarlet this will save me headache.

First, thank you for joining.. It means a lot.. 2ndI think 1, 2, and 4 will happen pretty fast. Here's the trick about the side handle, and the REDMote if you think about it.. The real tutorial you need is not so much the hardware, but the menu system.. That will be a large part of it.. Either way we are on it. As for 3.. We have some DaVinci workflows up there, but need to get some FCP .. That will be a little while though.

I'm not kidding, you guys are giveing me tears in my eyes right now.. You have no idea how long Noah and I have worked on this project to get it to this point.. And now it only gets better.

I am so happy you are liking what you see.. But there is another benefit to being in this Academy that I am MAJOR excited about.. And it will happen in about 1 week.. Those of you that already signed you.. You will be first in line for this. Maybe you won't be as stoked about this as I am, but I am 80% sure you will be.

If I called this right, and you like I have woekd out, the money you save will more than pay for your 1st three months at Infotech.

It's gonne be grear. Jan, you're happy cause I am going to help you outfit your Scarlet? Well.... Wait a week, and i will show you something you will not want to do without.

Thank you everyone. From the bottom of my heart.. Thank you. It only gets better from here.

Jay

By the way, to all of you who are joining.. You MUST be sure to register at Infotech Academy's Forum! Now let's be clear, REDUser RULES! As always Jarred, Jim and everyone have been nothing but supportive of all this.. But the new RED102 course is more interactive, and I cannot be filling up all Jarred's pages with our stuff. So if I add classes or do other cool things, I may make short announcements here, but the details will be there.. I don't really see our forum as a "Discussion" forum per sea, but more a place to get info. Perhaps it will evolve but for now it's fine as it is. The LAST thing I want to do is step on RedUser.. Besides, thsi is where I spend most of my time! :)
