Switronix V-Mount Plate for Epic and Scarlet

I bought mine from AbelCine here http://www.abelcine.com/store/Switronix-GP-S-EPIC-V-mount-Plate-for-RED-Epic-Scarlet/. Though when I did the price wasn't listed, they gave me a quote at a discounted rate for $250 (I did nothing to get a discount rate, all I did was call). Looks like the price is listed now for $320 but it still says contact a rep for availability. Purchasing was a little bit of a hassle, I had to make a copy of my I.D. and my credit card, then fill out a form with the copies of my I.D. on them, then fax it over.

Switronix has a list of local vendors but my guess is most of them don't have it in stock. I had a phone conversation with one of mine it went a little like this:

Me: I would like to order the V-mount plate from Switronix part number GP-S-EPIC10
Vendor: What camera is it for?
Me: It's a RED camera
Vendor: No no no no no, you have to tell me what kind of camera, is it Sony, Canon, Nikon.
Me: No it's a RED camera
Vendor: Sir I can't help you if you don't tell me what kind of camera it is.
Me: *Click*

Noel, please contact me via Private message as I would like to look into this further.

+1 for www.cinemaoxide.com products. Their stuff is well designed and affordable. I'll be ordering my Epic accessories wit them soon and every time I check their website, the have some new cool products listed.

I'm thinking of buying the Quickback from Cinemaoxide, and need to know how to build my own V-mount plate.

I'm thinking of picking up this:

http://www.adorama.com/SXGPS.html

And this to connect to teh camera:

http://www.red.com/store/cables/product/4-pin-xlr-to-6-pin-power-cable-30

My question is, do I need anything else? There was a dude here that bought basically these parts, and he made a nice looking budget package. But he hasn't replied to my PM's, so I'm not sure how he connected the 4-pin to LEMO Red cable.

Any ideas?

Hi Brandon, as the Switronix plate only has a P-tap connector (also called D-tap) I think you'll also need a D-tap to 4-pin XLR cable like this one. Two things: you'd probably want a shorter D-tap cable as it's going to get in the way (although you'll be future-proofed for adding extra modules, requiring a longer power cable), and you might want a second and even third D-tap port on the plate, depending on what you are doing, to power eg, external monitor, or if you are using the camera for documentary stuff, maybe on-camera lights and/or a mixer down the track.

PS. Here's another option for you Brandon. You could get the Cinema Oxide plate which also supports IDX battery plates and then this IDX V-mount plate with it's own 4-pin XLR cable. AT $186 it's well-priced and unlike the Switronix Epic plates, it's in stock. It doesn't have a P-tap power port for lights/monitor etc though. I'd send CinemaOxide a quick email to check this particular IDX plate is compatible with their plate.

Thanks for the tips, James. I'd prefer to order that last one, since it's from BH. It's not that I don't trust GMP, but it's less of a hassle to order from GMP.

MG1Concepts is close to being in stock and that's $599...but that's still expensive.

I'm thinking maybe getting that plate, plus this cable http://www.red.com/store/cables/product/4-pin-xlr-to-6-pin-power-cable-30 (though it's pretty long, 30" is the shortest one?) and the CinemaOxide back.

But I keep thinking back to this...and it looks really nice. I could change out some of the parts a bit, but even just the RED Power cable looks great!

Let me know what you think, he just bought a cheapo generic V-Mount plate for it. Not sure how he wired it. I PM'd him for more detail and never heard back.

FYI, Switronix EPIC plates are now shipping again. Also, as James pointed our our GP-S2PTX is similar to the IDX model linked, but has 2 powertaps(like our Epic plate). I'm pretty sure CinemaOx now includes holes to mount the "standard 4" arrangement for our plates. I don't know if the IDX C-EBXLR has the means to be mounted on a "quickback".

Vinny, where can I find them in stock?

I've got two on backorder now for a month from Abel

Abel should be seeing them in about a week. We're currently fulfilling backorders from dealers. I apologize for the backorder....the Lemo 1B availability has been well documented on the forum which was holding us up.

We just got a case of Lemo connectors in so we'll be shipping our battery plates on Monday March 12th. The Brick Back Plates are also in stock so you'll have a complete battery solution. You'll also be able to order the cable in any length. 10", 2-foot, 3-foot, 4-foot, 6-foot, 10-foot...
