  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Any Stage 3-ers NOT get their full trade in value?

As I prepare to send in my RED ONE to trade in, I'm curious if anyone had any issue not receiving the full $17,500 value? Although I've been using it for 4 years, my camera's fully functional and I don't believe there's any damage, cosmetic or otherwise, so in my budgeting I've always assumed I'd receive the full offer, but I'm wondering if anyone has encountered issue I'm unaware of.

Anyone have any issue?

THANKS! :)

Everyone? Can you share what kind of repairs they were?

Thanks,

No repair costs here.

Quite a few people have needed an internal fan cable replaced for a few hundred bucks and a very small number of reds have had their audio boards replaced which is up around a couple thousand.
Seems like most have not reported any extra charges.

Thanks Tehben. Wouldn't either of those repairs be ones that I'd be aware that my camera would need before sending it in?

Nope, I don't think anybody knew before they sent theirs in. I think RED is basically refurbishing so they need to make sure everything is in tip top shape.

The worst that's happened is a couple people had a $16K trade in instead of a $17.5k trade in... Still pretty incredible IMHO!

The real question is, what will happen to them all?

Sound board replaced. And not being MX, they charge for the MX badge. The result was a few less dollars for accessories. But this trade in offer is still pretty amazing so I have no complaints at all.

Peter, how much did it end up being? Feel free to PM me if you prefer.

Our repairs were inexpensive in relation to the value of the trade-in. Also I believe the eval had a stipulation that you weren't supposed to be posting the contents, or sharing them with anyone- so just an FYI.

This is pure out of thin air speculation, but the RED ONE may be powerful enough electronically to handle the Dragon sensor. What do guys think? Possible?

Nope. I believe it has already been said that it will not be upgradeable to Dragon.

When I think about the price for stage 3 being ~$10,500 (give/take based on R1 RMA) for a package that is a brand new ~$45,000 retail camera package it sounds like a win to me even if you don't get half your money back.

Full trade in value on my RED One body, treated my camera like a baby, nice soft case, sturdy tripod, never missed a beat for me, never shut down, never quit or failed at any time. But I used it and worked it, was so worth it on the Stage 3 trade in offer. Still overwhelmed by RED's Stage 3 offer and thankful. Amazing.

Loving my EPIC, waiting for my REDMOTE and Side Handle and PRO battery module and module adapter.

Hopefully soon come.

They replaced our audio board too. Pretty small potatoes when you look at the trade in deal alltogether.
