  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Samyang 24/1.4 coming

And it should cover 5k.

"Fish-Eye 8mm fits the following cameras: Canon EOS 1D Mark IV..."

Not quite sure. DPreview mentions the old 8mm as APS-C coverage.

EDIT: just checked the site again. Missed it before. It states that it does not cover full frame. It will probably vignette on 5K

I know, that's why I said "it should" and quoted the info on the website... they say it fits the 1d mk4...

We have a number of Sigma primes and they are awesome! The 50mm & 85mm f1.4 are real workhorses for our productions. We use the 28mm f.18 for aerial work and just picked up the 30mm f1.4 and are looking forward to doing some testing with it.
@ Mike

What I was implying in my own dumb way was that with mass modern precision manufacturing techniques including lenses allows for a far higher degree of accuracy then previously obtainable.

From memory (always dangerous) Samyang were in the business of making specialised lenses for security cameras & they figured they could also do lenses for a larger market. These lens are not like the sigma lenses of old. Speaking of which I believe Sigma lens quality has vastly improved using these same manufacturing techniques.

I have the Sigmas and I think they are fantastic value.
20 f1.8(full frame unheard of speed for the FL )
24, 28, 30, 50, 85 lenses make a really nice set. Wider than that I'd go wit an F2.8 zoom. There are no primes faster than 2.8 wider than 20mm and the Sigma 20mm is the only (still)20mm prime with F1.8 speed. Pretty easy choice...

Wow, did not know about the Sigma 20mm 1.8 FF. Does the Sigma 20mm have an aperture control? If not will it work with the Optitek nikon mount to control the aperture?

No Iris ring on the lens but ProLock controls the iris just fine..:thumbup1:

Interesting that once the "Walmart" of lenses, Sigma is now getting great reviews . Personally for fast budget lensing that has great quality, for the money, I have gone the Samyang/ Rokinon route. Duclos lenses did a comparison with the Zeiss ZE 35mm & the Samyang 35mm & came up with some interesting results.

I have their 85 and 35, and the 8mm Fisheye is going to be here tomorrow.

The 85/35 are great, infinitely better than the POS Canon 50mm 1.4 which has broken on me twice. I hope that Roki releases a 50 next.

So the 8mm vignettes at 5K and is fine at 4K. Seems like a perfect Scarlet lens then. Cheap and great images @ 4K.

Creeps in at 5K, covers 4K with no issue.
I wouldn't bother at 5K, to be honest...unless you're shooting like a skate video or something. But I was really surprised at the FOV of it. Well worth the 280 bucks.

I wish they were starting with a lens that is arguably more useful, like the 35 or 85.
