Well after slowly acquiring all my bits and pieces i have finally been able to sit down and set up my Epic (studio style mode), in a layout that im happy with for now.....
I have the Action Products Proteus/Electra & Top & Bottom Audio Plates, The old ET EVF and the old RED top handle
This stuff from Action products is top shelf kit.....!, hands down some of the best engineered 3rd party accessories i've seen.....!
The only problem i have found with the AP top plate is that i have had trouble mounting a handle and my ET EVF mount.
My initial thought was a request for more mounting holes, but when you look at there Top plate, there really isn't a lot more space to add more mounting holes.....
So i had to start cannibalizing some of my old RED kit to get it to all fit. My solution was to cut down both sides of the old RED top handle so it would all fit.
Now as you can see its all nice and snug on top of the EPIC.
Next to come will be pics of my Hand held set up........
cheers
Paul

Chris,
I know the cost of he AP hardware seems expensive, but I feel the quality and functionality of the products are worth every penny...
I forgot to mention one of my favorite features with the Electra is the hot battery swap, being able to take off a battery and swap it without loosing power is such a smart feature......( I think you get 4-5 mins of aux power)
Cheers
Paul

Who makes the top handle?

Seriously nice set up. I have some of the Action Products gear and agree - it is first rate. I bit the bullet early on and decided that the cost was worth it.

Very nice setup Paul... thanks for mentioning the hot swap feature of the Electra.

Nice set up Paul, I think the action products and the red brick add's some much needed weight to the back. I'm going to hold out for the Pro I/O but yes the AP look very nice!

How have you found the ET viewfinder set up? I was looking at the Wooden Camera one but after a little reading the ability to grab and adjust mid shot on the Element Technica seems like the way to go!

Nice going Paul, That is a nice ride. If I get down to OZ can I take it for a spin?? You could do a new show. Pimp My Epic.

Very well done, Looks like it belongs on the cover of this months Epic Life...I think I just made up a new magazine I would buy.

You would come up with that little deal with the old handle the very day I put mine in the mail to someone who bought it after I had sat and looked at it for hours and days, trying to figure out how to use it and then just said get rid of it. Thanks for the email buddy.
Cheers and man your camera is well.......Im envious and I just got mine. Dam I hate you right now.

thanks guys for the wraps on the setup.......its all nice and shiny now....but in a year or so......

Its an old Double ended RED ONE top handle that ive cut down to fit on top of the EPIC.

Not planning on using the touch screen much, just REDMOTE & side handle.........when they arrive....!

Right now the ET EVF is ok.......i may buy the new conversion kit for it to make it marginally smaller & lighter, but for now in studio mode its fine.......

Hey Russ i'll drop you an email.......been a long time since last catch up mate........glad to hear you got your cam....get down to Oz soon man & come play Epic....!

cheers
Paul

You should wait for the ultimate, clever and lightweight AP design, which should be announced soon ;-) I have it already as a test configuration on my EPIC, worth to wait...

The AP Electra is the plate with the V mount for the RED brick?

Hello Will,

The Electra is actually the "A" shaped wedge on the back allowing for power distribution. However, the Electra is just a part of that ActionProducts power solution.

ActionProducts EPIC Power Module "Electra"

  • 12V Power for the Camera (though basic module Proteus)
  • 2x 12V D-Tap out Accessories (one D-Tap on the battery plate)
  • 2x12V out (2 or 4 pin Lemo) Accessories
  • 1x 24V (regulated Fisher 3 pin) out Accessories
    - 24V/3 amp, 12v - all together 3 amp
  • 1x in/out 12V camera power 4pin XLR
  • 1x in/out 12V camera power 6pin LEMO (REDone) connector with Battery information
  • Puffer Battery (can power Camera and Accessories up to 4 min.)
    - LED shows when Battery power is low and the operator needs to switch to the puffer-battery
    - LED shows when puffer Battery is on or when it is charging.
  • Can connect a battery mount directly to Electra (hardwired V-Mount or AB) - or add an Adapter module and then the Battery module (for quick swapping - V-Mount and AB mount available - other to come ...)
  • 7075 "Aircraft" aluminum - milled! Anodized.
