Hey guys, here is a short film we did a couple weeks ago using Scarlet #94 with Canon L Primes and the Tokina 11-16 f2.8. The first shot and a couple broll shots were done on a different day with a 5d. We shot with natural light and a couple 2ft cool lights. The camera worked flawlessly, though the fan was a bit louder than preferable, though its virtually unnoticeable in the film. It was quite hot, around 78* in our location we had the fan set to 50% record, 80% standby. ISO around 800.

cool piece! we've been setting the fan to 10% during record and ihe noise wasn't getting picked up by our boom op

Hrmm I've heard that in moderately warm environments when setting the fan below 40% would overheat the cam and trigger the emergency fan which is SUPER loud. How long were your takes?

Also I am hoping in the new firmware that there is more of a warning when the battery gets low. It seems like it only tells you 10 seconds or so before its going to die.

depends on how long your takes are. short takes 10% is fine, 25-30% you can get a few minutes, up to 5 or so. 40% we were doing up to 40 minute takes before it broke in to 70 degrees. and 50% you should be able to record indefinitely. ie a full 256 gig mag.

and nice work on the short :)

the hyper flat look gave it a nice retro look, feel like it could have used a little more luminance though. but interesting concept nonetheless :)

Good work Tony, fantastic look!

Thanks guys! We are very pleased with the final of this project. It was pretty difficult working in one hotel room with 13 crew members, but we did it =) The size and weight of the Scarlet definitely lended itself to getting the type of shots we wanted.

Good to hear about the fans Tom. I was wanted to be safe about it since I heard about Timur's experience and didn't want to fall into the hot zone haha. I'm going to do some more testing on my shoot tomorrow and see if I can find a happy medium around 30%

We were definitely trying to shoot everything dark and gloomy. Eerie yet sensual. I kinda wish we had a bit more light as well so that we could have a little less noise. Thankfully it doesn't look that noisy on vimeo =) The blacks in the raw definitively have quite a bit of grain to them.

It looks great. I'm guessing from the way it sounded that they hired a gaffer and had him "do" sound?

hehe...insofar as the DP and Production Mixer are the only ones shooting and are each responsible for 50% of the product, I could argue that the Mixer is a good deal more "main" than the guy who moves lights around and is responsible for, well, 0% of the product, but I get your meaning. I didn't get the impression that it's a dialogue-driven piece. And gaffers can have it hard as well. So much stuff to deal with. Our concern here is the way it looks and it looks very, very nice. I hope my stuff will look that good. Great job.

Haha, something like that. Being such a small space to work in, the three of us (the main crew) had to do a bit of everything.
