I'm wondering if anyone else has a DP6 with the same problem I do. I have a fixed noise pattern in the blacks that looks like it might be a defect. How to the blacks look in your DP6?

I have the same fixed noise with my dp6; I've used it on 4 or 5 different cameras and it behaves the same across the board. I have a brand new dp4 as well and it does the same thing. It hasn't really bothered me though; it's not too prevalent. Is you're distractingly dense?

i also have it, but think that's just their design, it kind of sucks, but when shooting it doesn't really matter, as most of the time i have the monitor on peaking, so the image doesn't really look nice :) But anyway, i was quite disappointed the first time i noticed it, it's not something you see on a tvlogic...

That's a bummer. I was hoping mine was defective. I really can't stand it for shooting low light scenes. It's pretty much useless because the noise is brighter than the picture. I'm sending it in for repair and I'll be interested to see what they say, if it's just made that way or what. Maybe I'll have to get a return.

Do you have any exposure tools on in the monitor? The DP6 uses the same panel as the tvlogic so it is most likely a firmware issue that could be updated with a fix once they have one.

I do, but I'm using this monitor mostly for my 1st AC's focus, so this noise business is a killer. We ended up using the Red touch (!) for focus during darker scenes.

Have you tried turning off all options in the DP6 menu and seeing if it is still there? I'm sure you have but just curious.

Yep, nothing is on like focus assist or false color. Just the regular picture. I'm having trouble understanding how people work with this monitor. I mean, it's fine in daylight or brightly lit scenes, but anything slightly dark and the noise is crazy distracting. I can't really even call it noise because it looks like something from the display panel.

Mine doesn't seem to be as bad as your describing, it's certainly useable in low light and I'm pretty picky, sounds like a bad one maybe?

The guys at SmallHD have been very helpful. They are sending me a loaner and I'm going to take a look and see if there's a big difference between the loaner and mine. I'm hoping there is, and I'll just need a repair or replacement. I'll keep this thread updated.

So, I got the loaner unit and it's exactly the same as mine. There is noise banding in low light and is awful compared the both the TV Logic and the Red monitor. They are letting me return it, but with a $170 restocking fee. I'm feeling pretty pissed about it. As soon as I get those funds, I'm putting it toward the TV Logic monitor. I tried it out at Abelcine yesterday and it blows the SmallHD away. Completely.

I have the same noise problem on my DP6. Looks terrible. Colors look terrible, too. I updated to the latest firmware, but I've noticed the monitor is discontinued on their website. Calling customer service on Monday...
