  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Reduser 4K Portrait Competition...

I have a feeling that Ketch is going to win this one...
Go Semi-naked girls in 4K!! (approved for all audiences, of course)

But I would also love to see what Tom Lowe and Mark Toia can produce, if they choose to participate in this.

He he, thanks for the support and vote of confidence Eric, but I foresee a fierce and strong competition ahed on this one,
and mind you I NEVER done any competition in my life, I don't do festivals, but this is different, this is HOME.

However for this one I might go on to something completely different... Like something involving Roman Cityscapes... Or... New Zealand landscapes... Or NOT... ;)

I know that my man Godfrey could win this category with some Epic portrait footage he shot in NYC last year! He's probably too secretive to submit it, though.

Interesting

So I am guessing that all s-3d entries are off the menu?

That might be a pity given the possibility of REDRAY and a RED based s-3d format and things purportedly looking like a dynamic s-3d Cibachrome on the RED laser projector/3d system.

Good S-3d and 4k are a match made in heaven.

Cheers,

Eric

Another questions: Are PAL frame rates acceptable? 25fps, for example?

Also, Color correction can be done in high end graders like Pablos and Da Vinci Resolve, or need to be done either in Redcine X and Premiere Pro? What file format do you want to receive?
I think I'm getting my Epic in 10 or so days so I believe I have time for this! A great first project for "Lilau"! :)

Congrats Sergio!

I believe you can do whatever you want to it in Davinci, Pablo etc. as long as the edit is done in premiere pro (and rendered from there too).

4 minutes.

PARTICIPANT RULES:

Content captured on a RED One, EPIC, or Scarlet cameras
Edited on Adobe Premiere Pro (submission must include your Premiere Pro project file)
Maximum length of 4 minutes including credits (submissions over 4 minutes will not be considered)
No dialogue or sync sound
Submissions should exemplify the impact of 4K imagery and support Reduser Party event theme “THE WORLD [IN 4K]”
Cleared music track can be included as sound source
Content should be for suitable for all-ages viewing

Hello
Is there any duration of the portrait?

Hehe thanks Ivan! Would be great to have it when you get here! Lots of questions for you, for sure :)

This looks fantastic. I have tons of prep work to do for my first feature, but hopefully I can get something completed in time to enter it into this as well.

What are the specific usage rights to RED beyond the showing at the NAB competition?

I'm in! (As long as my Scarlet gets here soon, that is!) Very excited about this one, conjuring up ideas with my crew now!

i don't know what the "rules" will be for this event, but it seems smartest to have all rights clear so that if you win, or at least make something decent, it can be shown more broadly then private links. There are a number of ways to get decent music for free.

Similarly any titles or printed word based ideas or messages alowed?

It seems unlikely I will be able to submit anything worthy in time, but I’m guessing the ‘portrait” idea might also explore the DCSMC concept and to blur the line between stills and motion, and Adobe Premiere being the glue to make that all happen.

Random thoughts:

Given that we are all 4k now I keep wracking my brains for accessible subjects that really need that high res 4k rendering and texture to tell an interesting visual story that doesn’t look like a TV advertisement or a welcome to New Mexico “pitch” that you might see on screens at the airport.

I am reminded of La Jetee (Cine-roman) by Chris Marker as to the power of stills to tell a cinematic story hence the DSMC concept, and secretly hoping that something shot on scarlet_X will win.

I am (slightly) wary that the wining entrant might look a lot like Clint Eastwood “half time” piece during the superbowl as a sort of “portrait” of a nation.

The “occupy” movement might be good subject…

The opportunity to tell a purely visual story is indeed a golden one.

Time to think outside the box.. waaaaay outside the box.
