  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Epic X #305 stolen

Shit man, sucks!
Would it be an idea for red to make a stolen camera list that syncs with Redcine-X. Each camera has a unique PIN, so if redcine could check the the metadata with the red stolen camera database and then automatically send the ip of the user to red, it would never be possible to shoot something on it again without somebody noticing it, and possibly tracking it back. I would approve redcine to do something like that (like google maps asks your location) Redcine could also do that?

I support that idea as well! We all work too hard to have our gear stolen by people that don’t even know what to do with it.

If this is possibly, I think it would be a great idea.
Rather than 'as standard' you could opt in to the program, and then it would be enabled via a firmware 'key' of some sort?

certainly something to consider given the damage a stolen camera can do to finances, businesses etc...

That's actually a really interesting idea. A statement from RED about a match should be enough, at least in the US, for the police to get a warrant to check who was using the IP address. There is only one problem with blocking use of the program. The original owner,and their old clients, would be unable to use footage they had previously shot before the camera was stolen. I can think of one possible solution to this, but it would be possible to get around it fairly easily (t/d stamps).
 
How about blocking firmware upgrades for stolen cameras?

Thanks for your interest, the insurance company is Allianz Mexico, a mexican company specialized in film equipment insurance.

All is going well with the claim, the only delay has been that the mexican authorities move very slowly but hopefully all the paperwork will be finalized this week so hopefully by next week we'll have a replacement camera in our hands.

A big THANKS to all the Red people involved in helping us out. I'm humbled by the fact that they are respecting the original price we paid for the epic X package when they could easily charge the current price without all the discounts. That fact by itself is a huge relief for us. Also, they assured me that since it's not a new purchase, but only a replacement, we won't be submitted to the waiting list so we will receive the replacement as soon as they receive the money from the insurance company, which will be a great timesaver.

So hopefully by next week we will be on track again.

Again, thanks to all for your support and help. It's all deeply appreciated.
 
Luis sounds like things are working moving forward again despite the setback. It's all encouraging to hear good news.

Please keep an eye for it. The location where it happened is very close to Arizona (3 hours by car) so it might show up in Tucson, Phoenix and other nearby places.
