Hey guys, just got done with day 1 of shooting a short film.

I am the DoP on this particular one. We were trying to keep the lighting very calm and nothing outrageous.

I am normally a shallow depth of field/high contrast guy, but im testing myself to learn how to light very calmly. I guess that's how you would put it.

Anyways, here is a screen grab, I graded it real quick. Will post a r3d frame later tonight!

Oh, and the movie is a comedy, which I never ever do.

Hey M,

Looks pretty good. Now 'Calmly'... You mean desaturated & soft? It fits well with the genre. Most comedy is high key anyway.

Calmly as in lots of diffusion.

Im more of a cameraman/director (weird combo), lacking in some of my lighting skills, so I want to get good as controlling light and diffusing light as much as possible. It has always seemed much more professional imo.

It was actually a 1k broad chimeria as the key soft, and the back is a 150 inky with diffusion.

We were going to use some kinos, but we went with the chimeria instead.

I actually like those skin tones - good thing because I hate 90% of RED skin tones!

Still has some of that ubiquitous "RED tinge" to it but it looks like there's enough color differentiation going on in the face to bring out a good result in the grade.

So - tungsten? Interesting!
