  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

What do you think about the supply rate ?

First, there are too many people with blind love for Red! Just because Red has been doing it certain ways for years doesn't make it right. In fact, you're actually endorsing the only major weakness of their business -- ability to deliver products "on time". Please please ask Red to improve not continue being deficient.

Whether you're Canon, Sony, Red, or some no-name Chinese manufacturer, you should know exactly how many units you're able churn out each day, week, month, etc. Personally I can understand why Red might choose not to disclose this info (provide us with ETA). However for as a customer who have put down a deposit for a Scarlet, I have the right to ask for an estimate of delivery -- it's not complaining or whining.

But as customers we know Red isn't like any other company, and we still choose to buy their cameras, knowing there will be a wait time and things of that nature.

If you don't want to make that sacrifice, there are many other cameras out there.

And seeing as you already purchased a Scarlet, you should already know that they have began shipping cameras, and now you play the waiting game....

I'm already shooting with another camera that I'm happy with. Thanks.

I've put in a order on the 3rd and I don't mind waiting. I'm expecting mine sometime in February. But I still won't accept the fact that it's okay to wait without any ETA info, and that it's simply the nature of RED.

If you check THE LIST here :
http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?68059-The-List-Please-maintain&highlight=list
You can see there is a lot of Sale Orders...

There is 6000 SO between the last Scarlet received and mine ...
If I count that half of the sales are for a Scarlet : 3000 ordered before mine...
If I count only 300 per month, that means I will not get it before september 2012 !!!
I can't believe that !
If so I will cancelled my order... that's unacceptable, even from RED...

I'm in Europe so maybe it will change something... but I get RED Europe in phone fews days ago and they say they can't predict anything... Thanks guys !
We just ask for a prediction, a month or 4 month ? They can't tell ! It's quite a shame.

I highly doubt that there are that many orders for scarlet. I have probably made 4 purchases after my scarlet for odds and ends, and then put in an order for epic. I think a lot on the first night are scarlet only orders because the site was so bogged down it was not worth it to sit on site for anything else, but the next day after people were confirmed, they started to buy gear.

people DO realize they ordered a digital CINEMA class camera right? RED has mass marketed cameras of this caliber more than any other company. compare it to the competition, and i guarantee you with r1 mx's, epics, and scarlets combined, it out numbers all the other cameras in the same "league" by several times. waiting 6+ months for a camera if you weren't first in line isn't uncommon at all. it's not prosumer, it's professional and require a lot of QC. I'd be actually startled if they were cranking out over a thousand cameras a month...

You do have an ETA....

They shipped camera Nov 17th for PL's and December 1st for AL's, and said they would hopefully be out of backorder by February... I mean, they can't simply say, "Oh Cody Cha, your Scarlet will probably be done by the 17th of January at 3:35 pm :)"

So you have a term of December-February where you will hopefully get your camera.

It would be interesting to see if a couple of the complainers on here would whine as much if they followed the real names policy of this board instead of hiding behind pseudonyms and without listing their last names. Just wondering...

The The huge difference though between canon and red though is that canon is churning out c300s right now by the hundreds and thousands for a spring launch. You can preorder one and they can say exactly when you'll receive it because they're artificially holding it back from you. RED ships your camera the second it pops out of QC.

The way RED would be able to match canon or Sony predictability is to give themselves a bubble. You get their hardware and their software the moment it is usable and then patch in mid flight. Some people hate this, they want release software that has had thousands of hours of testing and predictable release schedules. But that means you also aren't getting the bleeding edge hot off the presses.

This is why people say "It's the Red way, just relax." Because the alternative is for Red to have a giant warehouse of scarlets just sitting around waiting for a widescale launch.

Now that being said it is annoying that we are seeing bleeding edge release dates (Dec 1) but not also getting feed back like "problems with the aluminum mount, looks like we'll have to pause production for a week or two while we work out some unforseen kinks." As customers I am feeling like we're only hearing positive announcements as of late.

... I ordered on 11/10 and it will take at least six months for me to get my camera. Happy?

How do you know this? You have absolutely ZERO basis for making this claim. Then again, if that's what you are expecting, maybe RED won't want to make you wrong by delivering before that. :biggrinjester:

here is a quick self-test to anyone waiting and wondering if its fair...

1. if you are complaining in the first month of waiting, while cameras ARE being shipped (not every camera shipped gets a post on reduser) then maybe you ordered the wrong camera at the wrong time
2. if you ordered a scarlet for a specific shoot or project, you ordered the wrong camera
3. if you think complaining about these specific issues, at this time-frame, with this company, and in these boards will do any good, then a. you have much reading back to do on these boards, b. maybe you ordered the wrong camera, c. it won't help
4. if you spent all you had on this camera and are now starving, waiting for it to come so you can "go out there and shoot" to make a living, you ordered the wrong camera.

i bought it cause i wanted to have it before others, and cause i wanted to save on the pre Jan 1 price increase. i am realistic, and i know (or at least believe i know) how RED operates, and i know nothing i say here will change it. when Scarlet comes I'll be happy, and use it, and know i have it before many others.

here is another advice. go work. you'd be surprised at how much time it consumes... wish i had enough free time to be THAT inpatient to start a thread about it.

on the other hand, by the time it gets here maybe I'll be done paying for it :)

and i still believe i'll have it pre-Feb (ordered on Nov 24). its way way too soon to complain.

hector.

RED doesn't sell consumer products. You can't just stroll into Best Buy and get one. Pretty much everything that comes out of RED is a custom order and generally already sold before it's even made.

If for example someone where to have no knowledge of a product such as Scarlet, then learn about it one day, then decide the next day they want one and expect to get it, that is what I would call BS. I don't understand how one would go about a purchase like this without doing substantial research. People waited years for the RED One, years to get an Epic, hearing about Scarlet for YEARS...and this has been common knowledge about RED camera systems. Given that Scarlet was actually shipping within two months of the "official" announcement is miracle and a blessing for many. We've all waited LONG for these cameras, most of us for years. So unless you're James Cameron, you'll have to wait your turn. Just because you're at the back of the line, doesn't give you the right to be bitter about it. I bet the guy in front of you isn't complaining and the guy behind you would be glad to take your place.

I will be very happy if he cancel his scarlet order.
please do it ! and my place will step up 1 faster lolz.

This response is just what I am talking about. Just another passive agressive response to another member who is probably in the same boat.

Red just seems to dismiss the consumer's request for a simple estimate. Granted they have an immense volume of orders, even if it is a ballpark estimate it would satisfy the basic need for information. Does nobody agree?

I would like to see legitimate debate on this topic.

No.
If you are paying attention to the flow, the Boss said and says, he did not nor he know what he is doing. doesn't tell you anything ?

Youre absolutely right Jarek. I've only followed RED for a couple year so I guess I'm a newbie and, therefore, a second class customer. You'll be very pleased to know that I ordered on 11/10 and it will take at least six months for me to get my camera. Happy?

I really don't get it. I'm not trying to make personal attacks here, it's not my intent, but this is exactly what I'm talking about. It was your choice to wait a week to order the camera. Now you're mad because only the people that ordered within the first hour or so are getting cameras? You waited too long and now you have to wait your turn, it's pretty simple. Getting upset won't change anything other than getting everyone here in an unnecessary flame war.

agree!

the only thing that´s not pointed out is the different mount question. i think i will get my scarlet-x TI Canon much later then the scarlet-x PL or scarlet-x AL Canon fraction, it does not seem that any scarlet-x TI Canon bundles have been shipped... :-(
pay a litte bit more, get it much later... but - shit happens :)))

If this is the way to be a "professional", I want be a consumer for ever.

Some guys here are ilarious, maybe a new art of sadomaso?
I pay what I buy, anyone give to us gratis present, normally is RED to say thanks to the buyer and not the buyer to implore RED to have one camera.
Even when I order a Ferrari I get the date of delivery.
Also i see that many technical questions are answered from user and not from RED Staff, you call this professional? When I make a question I would appreciate a clear answer from a person paid for this.
I learned to respect appointments, because in that way demonstrate respect to other people.
For what I can see RED is not ready to handle many orders, I sacrifice to these principles and for this cancel my order.

+1

I don't mind to wait if I know how long.
I'm planning to buy a Scarlet since a year, when nov.3rd happened I started to collect money and planify everything.
I spent so many hours to decode this freaking forum. I was expecting a 1-2 month wait from what I readed...
If it's a 6 month wait that's the least to tell it to your customer BEFORE he buy !!!
THIS IS NOT PROFESSIONAL !
I know people who dealed with really professional manufacturers (Arri, Pana, Aaton, etc) and that's not the way it works.
And, Benoit, the story with the BombEVF is a shame, not an excuse ! It looks likes you guys love to be fooled !
I really love Red products but I pay for them and I don't have to be fooled by a lack of informations.
This not the way it has to be. Some people already discussed the fact that's not a such big deal to make a script to predict at +\- 1 month.
Jim jannard, if you read, i really think it's time to make something please. It would be a great things for your customers. I would be so greatfull to gave us a professional SO tool.

Thanks !

This seems to be over thought in my opinion. I mean, where did this whole six month wait come from? I am a PL camera a bit down the list, and I really hope it is not that long, though I don't see it being that long either.

I am not complaining either, but updates on a purchase like this is needed. I spent 30 000 getting my Red package up to speed, and if I can't get a simple rough idea when to expect, it does kinda suck. But it is still too early to really say we haven't gotten updates. Cameras shipped November 17th, then December 1st, not even a solid month really when you account for this break and getting up to speed. Though in time, an update on my status and order is something that should be a given whit a purchase like this.

Everyone needs to stop comparing that oh, well I waited for years for my one, or have been following scarlet for years so I should get mine before you. Everyone paid the same amount of money, so everyone customer is entitled to a camera and update just as much as the rest, no matter when you ordered. The attitude of it come when it comes just doesn't work for me. This is a big purchase, one which I am waiting to begin shooting and cannot until then, I spent a lot of money and updates should be expected no matter who the company.

I have had a great experience with Red thus far and I am patiently waiting as time goes. This is not a slight at the company in anyway, but the ideology of making a big purchase like this and just waiting in the dark with no information is not good. But like I said, it is still way to early to tell if an update will be given or how many cameras will ship. I am hoping the mention of February means something good.

But it is Christmas morning, so Merry Christmas.

How to order a Scarlet-X like a Canon (TM):
1) Quit whining. Cancel Scarlet order if you will.
2) Wait until summer arrives and Scarlet is in stock.
3) Order.
4) Receive.
5) ???
6) Profit!

There. Happy?

I would be careful if I were you. Despite how unhappy it clearly makes you that we all discuss possible delivery times, suggesting what you are about the guys and gals in the Bomb Squad could be considered libelous.

In any case, if the discussion of delivery times upsets you then look elsewhere. The strange thing is that the longer the theorized delivery time, the bigger the hissy fits people have. Folks are actually whining about someone else's wait time! Be patient, everyone. :). Stop the personal attacks (because I report them, as well as the libelous ones). :). Be happy :)

Jarek, I have many months to wait for my camera and I do not blame you for that. You are absolutely, positively correct. I made a mistake by ordering on November 10th and not on November 3rd. It was unwise and now I have a very long wait. It's not clear why my long wait gets others so upset. If someone 2500 orders in front of me would like to trade I'm into it! :)

This thread has clearly gotten out of control with flaming and personal attacks (one person even attacked another's NAME!). I think we are all allowed to discuss the wait times and order status. I think if you're tempted to flame because you don't like another's wait time, or (in one case) make provable libelous comments, it would be best not to comment or even visit this discussion. Let's keep it civilized. I have asked a moderator to visit this thread.
