Well it's 5 am and I'm on my way to the Toronto airport to fly to L.A. to pick up my Scarlet...

First things first:
-Ti PL mount
-SO #1587
-Ordered 6am Eastern Nov 4th (3am L.A. time)
-Wasn't at the event

Camera allocation email came on Dec 13th, but they couldn't guarantee shipping / delivery before Christmas. I'm leaving the day after Christmas for a 2 week job in Japan, then drop right into the busiest January of my career when I return - all of those clients want Scarlet… So I figured in order to learn the camera inside out and test it before using it on paid production, I would need to bring it to Japan and shoot with it on my down days over there (every other day is a down day on this job). Plus I could get some great content for my stock footage portfolio.. So while we'll be shooting the Japan job on an AF100 - I'll be spending my free time with Scarlet.

I'll be picking up:
-Brain with PL mount
-RedVolts
-5" LCD
-Redmag 1-256 and 4- 64's
-RedStation

Still on backorder and will ship later:
-DSMC side handle
-Redmote

P.S. found out late last night that they found a 5" touch screen for me.

Hopefully I'll post pics along the way...

Congrats Glen. Make sure you pick up one of these:

It seems to me that without some type of battery plate, or side handle, you won't be able to get power into your SCARLET. If you have the AC Power Adaptor in your order, you'll be stuck to a wall. And if you do have the AC Power adaptor, I'm sure you're already aware to get an power converter to the Japanese standard. Play it safely as you don't want your SCARLET to fry while in Japan. Beautiful country!

Thanks Anthony.

I'm a veteran 'overseas' shooter Iceland to Costa Rica, Everest Base Camp to Death Valley, Land of the free to Hyper Communist and oppressive...

I picked up (already waiting here in my studio) handles and gack from Wooden Camera, Battery plate from VF to use V mounts, and 20++ years worth of accessories to use with Scarlet.

All Scarlets ship with the DSMC Power Adaptor. It's listed under "Included Items" on every Scarlet product page.

It's going to be a looooooong day - Toronto airport is jammed, and I can't wait to see LAX. Drive to RED then right back to LAX for the flight home. Scarlet in hand though, so that'll put a smile on my face.

Thought about brining a lens and battery so I could shoot on the way back, but decided against.

What are you doing in Japan? If you need any tips for cool places to check out or film let me know, I lived there for three years. Actually i'm just finishing up my documentary on the Video Arcades of Japan. www.100yenfilm.com

Well I have it! Serial# 203 - Trying very hard not to fondle it in the departure lounge of LAX...

Pics and impressions when I get a chance to actually turn it on.

Kegan and all the Toronto peeps - we can have a Scarlet / Epic showdown in my studio in the new year when everyone has their cameras.

So it's cheaper to fly to LA and back to pick it up rather than ship to Canada?

I find that amusing.

How about taxes when coming over the border?

Actually the tax you pay makes it a lot more expensive, 8% in Cali, only 5% here, and you can write that off. It's the price you pay when you need it now. If you did not have to pay point of sales tax, it would be cheaper then the duty.

Way to go glen!! 100 more cameras before mine is ready. I'll be in on that Toronto gathering.

Not cheaper - but the only way to get the camera in time for a deadline… Actually it was 'cause I used some points I had from all the travel jobs I did this year, and since one of my clients is an airline I got a bump to first class.

Taxes are the same at the border wether I walk in across or Fed-Ex brings it in.
