  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Using a Zacuto LCD instead of the Bomb EVF

I have the Zacuto. It works well. It's ugly as hell. Less range than my touchscreen but it keeps me in focus!

SmallHD DP4-EVF ! This will be on my Scarlet.

i just tried the dp4 and dp6 side by side (although the dp6 isn't an evf).
imo, i just couldn't stand the massive amount of distortion looking through the loop. the outside edges are very bent, nowhere near a rectangle. it was so bad i considered unusable.
the built was nice but the resolution is low. it was hard to focus with.
my conclusion was the dp6 was far better, even though it wasn't an evf. only a little bit lager, but as sharp as an iPhone screen.

i have been thinking about what it would take to fabricate a loop for the dp6. the size would be acceptable i think.

It's important to consider that you can not, at the moment before pro I/O or any other such solution use the Bomb together with the touch screen. So a BNC or Hdmi viewfinder is not a bad option. I would prefer BNC of course and the best would be BNC with I/O so it could be dazy chained with a reference monitor...

Or of course the best would be if we could get that IO module, but for my part I do not need the audio I/O so just to hook up the EVF it feels a bit big to have to put on another module. Is it no way to get video and power out of the pinouts in the back of the epic and just make the smallest module possible with power and EVF connection?

I just tried attaching the Zacuto EVF to an Epic the other day, it took a few minutes to get them playing nicely together, but eventually everything worked like a charm. I will be using the touch LCD and EVF together on my Scarlet as the EVF is great for focus and they both will display simultaneously.
