  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Pro I/O Module - Info and Pics?

I think I saw a post where Jarred says the Pro I O won't even be ready until April? Estimate?

Yep... From the backorders thread.

"PRO/IO - Production tooling finally kicked off. Still needs FCC certification when it comes out of fab, which means Likely April."

If the Pro I/O module won't be ready until well into next year why is Red listing a 2011 price with a substantial increase for next year? Forgive me if there is an obvious answer lurking about, but i have not been able to find it.

Pre-order versus order...

The announced price increases for Quad Module, I/O Module, etc are no longer "2011 price" and "2012 price." More like just "old price" and "new price." Jarred said a few days ago that they'd be offering a few weeks of "introductory pricing" whenever they appeared.

Basic I/O was canned. Only the pro model now.

Damn. I hope they've managed to shrink it a bit. I can't imagine flying that thing on a steadicam. It would take a bit of effort to balance that thing on my shoulder, though I guess there are better ways to go about field shooting that don't involve a pro I/O module.

I'm rather bummed about the decision to ditch the basic I/O as well, but I do think people are overreacting to the length of the modules. A dual battery module and a Pro I/O module shouldn't be much longer than the original RED ONE, and if you power your camera via your Steadicam, it's definitely shorter.

Has it been confirmed that there will be an EVF or a touch LCD port on the I/O so we can run both?

Yes, Jarred did it not longer ago....don't remember the thread title, sorry.

I think the length of the camera will be ok with the i/0 module. It will also be much better for shoulder mounted work.

That's very much an opinion though based on how you use your camera. Pro I/O will be perfect for some, less so for others. I'm halfway in between. Some shoots the size will be welcomed, others I will have to search for alternative options.

Even with the Pro I/O AND Battery Module, the camera will still weigh less that an Alexa and probably be the same length. Do they not fly those on steadicams everyday?

I don't think that is correct. No one outside of RED has seen the current Pro I/O and current Quad Battery Module so its all just guess work. Until the final details of these units are released we're in the dark.
