  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Red QR Plate Height

If you are asking how thick the plate is and Im not sure if its the measurement your after, to rase the camera from the base plate up to the lens centre from a standard 19mm base plate is 11.8mm so far as we can work out. This figure hasnt come from Red but its best we can calculate. Also this may not be the QR plate height as we don't have one to measure but Id be suprised if the figure is different.

Is 112mm accurate? I only ask because I have the Red quick release 19mm plate, and to use my arri mmb-1 mattebox I got Abel Cine's 15mm ltw to 19mm studio adapter (amazing piece which I don't believe anyone makes). The Red 17-50 fits right in the 143 back so the fit has to be spot on. I don't have the Scarlet so I cannot check but would like to measure to guess. It looks correct but measuring would be better for now. I am assuming that by Red making standard height, and the mattebox is because I use it now, that Abel would hopefully have made the adapter correct height for the gap between the two.

It is not accurate. Just a tape measure estimate. Anyone know the spec?

edit; remeasured more carefully. closer to 120 mm center of rod to lens center.

Thanks Brook, i put my mattebox on the rods, threw the lens in and from rod center to lens center it is 120mm, so I presume this setup will work. It is great when you buy quality gear, arri made the right height for LWT 15, Abel Cine made their LWT 15 to studio 19 adapter in enough height to give the 120mm. All assuming that this is correct, gonna have to check this out on a camera of course, but it looks good. I will get some photos up tomorrow if anyone wants to see. Also could put a ruler for your height request Lee.

edit-never got a photo, but if someone would like one Ill take it.

RED's DSMC baseplate respects the 19mm studio standard: 19mm at 104mm centered spacing, 120mm below the optical center.

Brook leads me to a clearer way to ask my question: "what's the distance from the optical center to the bottom of the camera?"

Anyone know? Or own an Epic/Scarlet and a caliper?
