Hey guys,

Just trying to work out the minimum set up for building an Epic like my red one [currently using the bottom cage with 19mm bars and the cheeseplate]. Is there way to achieve this without buying the quick release system?

Something like the Modular Assault Place Pack that works with a 19mm set up.

All these options are great, but it's hard to guess what's needed! Would be great if RED had a page that showed a variety of different configurations, form basic inexpensive ones to the more complex set ups...

Piers - have you tried to call your bomb squad rep? My rep Jason walked my through my whole set-up and it was very helpful. That being said I bought the quick release system and I am so glad I did. Maybe look at Viewfactor or Wooden camera's solutions? They're exceedingly well built....

Hi Adrian,

I haven't tried the bomb squad rep yet, thanks for the tip. But wouldn't it be handy to have photos of the different configurations up on the site, so we could take a good look and decide based on that?

Have been looking around at the other companies - there are solutions out there but it would be great to have a really simple Red solution, like we had with the Base Production Pack with the RedOne.

Will keep researching anyway!

@ Julio - looks great but it's a very expensive solution to something that could be quite simple and cheap...

@ Steven - that's certainly a good option, and definitely the cheapest. But it would be great to have a more compact solution, something like the Modular Assault Plate, which is more befitting the size of the Epic.

Any updates?

The only option I have found so far is the Action Products:
Epic Riser bottom plate $247 + Bridge plate $662 = $909

and I'm not sure if I can then fit my tripod plate to the bottom or not.

Also, what are the dimensions need for the riser/shim plate?
Unless I am missing something it would seem to be a cheap and simple option to get a local machine shop to cut a piece of aluminium to the right size ??

This option has cropped up - http://www.cinemaoxide.com/epic-to-bottomplate.php. Allows you to mount the epic to the Red bottom cage [handy if you already own one]. I'm wondering about this in combination with the wooden camera easy riser [http://woodencamera.com/easy-riser-epic] and their 15mm adapter [http://woodencamera.com/lw-15mm-bracket].

It's hard to predict if everything would fit, but potentially this could give you a way of running 19mm and 15mm bars. Of course it's not as elegant, lightweight or fast as the Red system but it does work out at about 1/3 of the price. Which is important to me :)

Yes, I saw that. But my Red bottom mount will be staying with my Red One. And Red don't sell them anymore (except as part of the production pack).

And regarding the Wooden Camera option, I am wanting to use 19mm bars, not 15mm.

So I still can't decide what to do...

Important to me too :-)

It looks as if it would attach to the easy riser but without pics I'd probably send them an email first just to confirm that those 1/4 holes line up.

Edit:

Pretty sure that's the set up Tonaci has in this pic
