It's looking less and less likely that Apple will keep the Macpro line.
I suppose this could mean they're making room for a macpro update... but it seems like a longshot.

clarification: I mean the brick & mortar stores.

I assumed he meant it was not on display in the brick and mortar Apple store.

Yes that's correct. I just picked up an iphone 4s yesterday at the Apple Store in @ the Glendale Galleria in CA. No MacPro's on display in the store itself.
Also, I just read a thread on the Creative Cow and according to the person who started the thread there were no MacPro's in the Apple Store where ever he was shopping...

the anticipation is killing us apple! i need a new mac pro but i keep waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting...and

Hey Michael, not sure if you remember me.. worked with you on "Randy Todd"..

Anyway, I think your'e right. I was at the apple store at the Grove the other day and there were none to be found. I did however just use Stan Paik's setup for a job last weekend (hackintosh 8 core w/ red rocket setup) and I really didn't miss a mac pro setup at all. So if they do go away, I know at least there will be an alternative.

Thanks. Good read. I still believe many Mac Pro enthusiasts would be more than satisfied if Apple released at least one updated version with Sandy Bridge processors and integrated Thunderbolt. Potentially it could last until dust clears regarding future of venerable desktop behemoth.

In my local Apple store (Palo Alto), I don't think I have seen a Mac Pro in many, many months. That seems completely logical to me since it would be waste of space in the retail store. People who want a Mac Pro are much more sophisticated and, therefore, likely to go online, configure it the way they want it, and have it shipped directly to them. IThe absence of the Mac Pro in the retail store indicates nothing.

Retailers with a product in stock do put said product on display for sale.
Online tech sales from the manufacturer are frequently built to order.
The Mac Pro is still being offered in the Apple online store.
Getting stuck with inventory of last year's model is generally a bad thing. This is especially true in tech.

If those statements are correct then it is reasonable to deduce that Apple is building Mac Pros to order and eliminating their inventory because a new model is imminent. The deduction could prove false, but it is none the less reasonable. Factor in the lengthy period since the last update, the status of Sandy Bridge and you have a pretty strong case.

Then again it could also be true that they are consolidating their inventory to sell out online before announcing the EOL, but then they are still taking custom orders, so I remain optimistic. :-/

I'm curious if "new AMD graphics cards" mentioned could include the LiquiFire hydro-cooled line of FirePro workstation cards.

i really wish apple would drop ATI has their primary card and go to nvidia. the drivers could use the extra attention...

You can still buy a Mac Pro at any Apple Store, this happens every year for the holidays folks...
