So here is what I think, Remember how epic had the modest version for $12,000 that was basically a restricted epic? Remember how they conveniently disposed of that luscious choice that all the Indy film makers wanted. Well I'm not holding that against RED, I think they did that in a positive way. I honestly believe Red is really in this business for the customer, and are not a capitalist money hungry Corporation. So in saying this, I think Red just said F it. I think they cancelled that model in plans of making the scarlet replace it. Taking on a S35 sensor, and maybe just possibly 4k at a lower data rate. why would they sell 1,000 of those when they can easily reduce cost and beef up the scarlet and sell 10,000. ( just a figure ) But to maintain the idea... 1,000 units @ $12,000 a camera will profit 12 million and probably another 3 million in accessories = 15 million. Instead take a $8,000 beast that makes that whole range of customers die for the product, $8000 x 10,000 units = 80 mil, and selling 20 mil in accessories = 100 MILLION. So say a 10 mil loss on production cost thats still 90mil vs 15 mil ( And Thats only if there are 10,000 buyers). Which If this does happen as I think, There will be at least 100,000 buyers. (guesstimate) Thats probably how many passionate Dslr users will upgrade alone who would buy the Scarlet in that case.

LONG LIVE RED, DSLR IS (DYING) DEAD

There's a huge market for the $6k-ish crowd.. I'm just sayin'. RED should almost use Scarlet as a loss leader.. C'mon Red, suck us into your uncompressed vortex of lovely pixels..

S35 would be swell, but the comment just made about Scarlet is the best possible price for the best compromise, it seems not so likely we'll get a full frame Scarlet yet. Sadface

Ya there have a two kind of business, sell very little then take more profit, another one sell in large scale then take little profit, which is the stable business and huge market share,I think second one,I wish Scarlet is a S35mm less than 8k,I can't imagine how they will full fill there demand .................................................any way within 4 year 4K consumer camcorder will be out in market,if Red will start now no body can't overtake them

I am going to be graduating college soon in a few months. If R3D makes the Scarlet affordable, IE in the 4-6k range for modest packages... I have no doubt it will blow up. In a good way. I would strongly consider buying one if I could save enough. Hands down that would be the camera I would want.

I think there will be a $6,000 scarlet... but I also think there will be different models available. There was alot of people that heard Red was dropping the $12,000 epic - s (or whatever model) and was disappointed that that wasnt an option anymore. Yes Big budget films use 5k with all the Raw data, but for most projects 3k or 4k is completely acceptable. Whats not acceptable in the PRO level is 2/3" sensor, yanno what is? S35!. Like I said before Red doesn't disappoint customers. Ever. Never. Ever. Thats why I think there will be a S35 scarlet brain sold. I would LOVE for it to be 4k, LOVE LOVE LOVE IT, but I rather have S35 at 3k. Even if Red was like its a 2/3" sensor 4k!!! It would dely my pre-order. Not for long, but maybe an hour or so. = )
Red knows canon is going 4k, and i think it tickles Jannard's nipples in a wierd way. If I brought TRUE RESOLUTION to the industry and my competitors were even close to my product, with the basis that RED is out to Level the playing field. I'd be damn sure to embarass my competition so there cheeks were rosey all year.

That why before the matter I expressed = ( just a figure ). If this was a accounting website then yea sure call me out on it ha, but I think we all know what were here for.

Yea, I just dont want them going too cheap. At least when originally i wanted the epic - S ($12,000) that was cancelled.

Since Epic is in production and they have a baseline reference for volume production costs now, lets hope they have crunched the numbers in our favor for Scarlet.

I predict there will be at least one Scarlet.:yesnod:

Oh please... I'll throw one of my favourite quotations at you:

'Real boats rock'

RED rocks (in both senses of the word!) more than most, it can be a choppy ride at times; they're a very real boat and they sometimes even give tours of the engine room & bilges. But for performance, style, and most especially price/performance, they can't be beat.

Hmmm...just checked the shop.

SSD Module $ 1500
Side Handle $ 950
Display $ 1600
Charger $ 125
Redvolt $ 195

That´s everthing except media.

$ 4370

That leaves $ 1630 for the body and the lens...the lens alone could be sold for over $ 4k.
$ 12000 for a basic package may be more realistic. But how could they ever say it would be around 6k?
