So the Scarlet is coming out soon, Will this be you first pro cinema camera? Who is moving up for the first time from DSLR to Scarlet, and how excited are u? =) Just a fun thread to pass by the time :grouphug:

I'm moving up from a DSLR currently, but prior to that I shot...EX1/3, HVX200, and FX1.

I'm so excited I can't focus on work. I'm officially disconnecting my Ethernet cable at my work station tomorrow to get some much needed work done.

Just plain excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To this point we have used film for our one large project (though in the future we might rent high end digital cinema systems instead). For smaller projects we currently shoot on a Canon 5D Mark II and a Panasonic HPX170. In all likelihood the Scarlet will join those cameras for those small projects and and may be used for B-reel stuff on larger projects as well.

Not my first pro camera, but I am absolutely excited about the Scarlet. I've worked with the Red One a few times and I love it. I love DSLRs as well, partially because of their size, and the scarlet seems to be a nice middle ground. Can't wait to see what they pack into that package, and for how much.

Jim himself said many times in his Scarlet interviews that Scarlet is Pro Cinema camera, if you don't consider it one then why would the price-tag be so high I believe in Jim and what he said so yes I do consider it to be a Pro Cinema camera!
Are we considering the Scarlet a "Pro Cinema Camera"? Let's wait and see the final specs, but with a fixed zoom lens and 2/3" sensor, it feels more appropriate for documentary / corporate videos than high end cinema.

this will be my first pro cinema camera and moving out of the dslr world. however my last production i used the RED ONE and loved it. this camera is no doubt gonna change my life and the lives of many other independent filmmakers in the world. super excited and soooooooooooo ready.

First Pro camera I will own, I'll spend money on this camera instead of buying first car.
I have canon T2i, but mostly my project I want to shoot need to run longer than DSLR capability.
I'm very exiting for scarlet, cause in my country are rarely use red in small production (It cause my 3 salaries to borrow for 1 day), so "most" of feature film production here are using dslr.

I think this camera will be hit in my country, they will using this to do every media types (feature film also).

I've always rented. When I rent, 95% of the time, I use AF100's. I've also used HVX200's, GH1 & 2's, 7D's, and the Sony EX1. This will be my first pro camera purchase. I've been waiting for this day for 3 years, like many have, studying all that REDUSER has to offer. Couldn't be more prepared and excited...and yes, last we heard, RED is considering all their cameras as professional.

Adding to my 5D mkII, that I will keep.

I think Scarlet's benefits are obvious, but I see problems as well:

  • How long will a Redvolt last?
  • How much quality footage can you fit onto a 128 GB SSD?
  • With a T2.6 lens, how will Scarlet hold up with available interior light?

I would like to be able to carry a light package: Scarlet, 2 extra Redvolts, storage (as few of those expensive SSDs as possible) in addition to a jib/crane.

I can see myself doing many interior shots for corporate production, and I don't want to bring lighting for everything.

I think light sensitivity and storage are defiantly my two biggest concerns.

My R1 was my first "Pro" camera I owned. In fact, m,y R1, #6732 was the first Red I had actually seen in person!! I had been religiously follwing the camera from the time when they were a ripoff and scam (Not what I thought, but we all know the timeline), till the point when I needed to have one myself!

And if my budget still survives kitting out my Epic-X StageII, then a Scarlet will make 3!!

I had the 7D, 550D and GH2. That were all toys...

Last year i work the first time with a RED One and that was the point where I said: If I ever have the chance to buy a camera from RED, i will do it.

Its not only the possibility to shot in 2,3 or 4K, it is the company behind it (and i hate plastic cameras:nono:)!

We love all ur story's , very inspiring and heartwarming, it's awesome to see you all get ur dream come true... Awesome job RED!!!!!!!

Coming from a pro photography background (Nikon D3 and D7K). Looking forward to the upgrade and trust it will be a pro cinema grade camera. I just hope the stills capabilities of Scarlet allow me to sell my current camera bodies.

Come again?

Scarlet to replace Nikon D3 as a stills camera?

Andree:

Don't misunderstand me. I understand Scarlet is geared for video first, and this is where my career is pulling me to. I now make more money from video shoots than photography, however, I still do the occasional photog events so it would be great if the stills capability of Scarlet would be similar to a prosumer body, like D7K, so I don't have to keep both. If it isn't, then so be it, but it would be nice if it did. After all, RED did invent the DSMC term (which I wondered why it had the S before the M).
