Dear red,

Love my epic M!!!!! Only thing I want is when I format a ssd is a menu that pops up that says "hey dude! there is media on here! u sure u wanna format me?" If you can get it to say that...now were talkin!

hehehehe

really though, make a "are u sure menu" before format screen.

go EPIC!!!!!!! go!

The REformat menu structure design I believe can be done better.

Most of my ACs agree that they feel bad when they see that screen. To have Unmount and reformat looks similar and be in the same screen area just feels bad and its an awful site to see.

Can the powers that be look into giving it a "RED touch" I mean take a moment and see if you can make it even better, definitely not next to each other with the same color buttons.
Im not a good designer nor do i claim to be. But this could use a revamp.

LOL Idiot Window!

I think the format button should be a physical button situated right next to the record button. It should be the exact same size and color of the record button, and you only have to press it halfway to initiate a format.

;)

Or if there's no room for an extra button, how about making the REC button dual use? Push all the way for FORMAT (no idiot window - puhlease, we're pros here) and push half-way for RECORD.

Problem solved!

I am in full support of both of these statements.

Seriously though, not that I'm claiming to not be an idiot, but I kinda like it just fine the way it is. It's not like we push the format button and it just formats the card. It still has you verify the card/reel number. I think if I always had to tap "Yes" or "OK" on an idiot window, I'd be asking to have it removed.

I would've like to see a write-protect tab on the SSD cards though... Of course, some of us just use RED gaff tape over the business-end of the SSD card or whatever to say "don't F with this".

The idiot window doesn't actually help reduce how often it happes.
We found this out on red one which has the idiot window.
Calls for help to unerase mags didn't go down after adding the feature.
People just got used to it and blazed right through the menu.

Sounds like bad data management. I never let a card go back to the camera with footage on it. Put it in the trash (dont empty the trash) on the card after its been verified at the destinations. Then when the idiot window pops up, its a surprise, not normal, and people start asking questions. (BTW, for those wondering, putting it in the trash doesnt remove the footage from the card - its still easily accessible in case something happens to the destinations.)

I submitted an idiot-proof request about a month ago as we were shooting our feature....one of the cams was shooting 48FPS with HDRx so the maximum stream for recording is 12:1 just before lunch. When we shot our next scene at 24FPS after lunch the AC changed to 24FPS and shutter back to 1/48, but forgot to change the resolution back to 6:1...I happened to notice this on the 2nd shot of the scene (and thus the first shot of the scene was entirely done at 12:1). I was naturally quite upset, and when I checked the footage there was a noticeable difference between 12:1 and 6:1 -particularly with motion...as it was an ambitious day with a great deal of production value I could not afford to shoot it again (plus I had performance issues with the actor who had most of the dialogue).

My request was that if there was a switch that there is a natural default reset which may be tied to project or card format settings. That way, if you have to go down to 12:1 for a specific shot, one doesn't have to worry that your next shot will be compromised.

Red said this would be done in a subsequent release, which is great. I would hate for this to happen to anyone else.
