Maybe I'm late to the game here... but I just discovered the USB to power connection in our box of cables sent with our Red Station...

Any experiences good or bad with bus powering your Red station and transferring/playback from it at the same time?

If it is possible to use bus power with no issues, THIS WILL BE AWESOME!

RED STATION bus powers just fine! Just be sure your USB ports output proper power -- I say this because many USB hubs don't provide proper power to all ports, even the powered ones. It's a real drag.... But that's another discussion.

If you connect your RED STATION modules via FW800 or USB2, you don't need to run separate power adapter or USB to power cable. Unless you're daisy-chaining more than 2 of them. Which I don't know why you would.

I use the USB to power cable all the time when connecting via a macbook pro or notebook PC with an eSATA connection. It's often more convenient than using the AC adapter. You can also power the RED STATION via the USB to power cable when it's connected to a standard USB to DC power wall-wart supply. Like you would use to charge your iPhone or other mobile device.

Wow, you just blew my mind. I'm so glad I heard this now instead of one year down the road when I find out I didn't need to be finding an extra outlet for the Red Station....

hi, is it possible to use HDMI lcd with epic instead of red touch screen lcd???

wow, so even with FW 800 it's down to a single cable? Am I mistaken in remembering that when using the old 320gb Red Drives it was always recommended to plug them in for a transfer? Is it different now with the Red station/SSDs?

The Red Drives required close to, if not exceeded, typical bus power limits on host computers, which is why so many Red Drives have blown Firewire 800 outputs (at least that's the one that's blown on mine). I imagine SSDs require less juice than spinning drives, little enough, apparently, to be safely powered via USB/FW800.

Would be nice if Deanan or anyone at RED could let us know if it is the RIGHT thing to do?

Thx!!
