This is terrible, sad news. I hope there was little lasting damage done to the individuals and companies harmed by this person. Really sorry to hear this, Jim.

Arri, Band Pro and Red... It might be interesting to know who wasn't compromised.

Very sorry to hear about this.

:(

It sounds to me like he only illegally logged into one email account. So everyone I assume that sent and received email from Amnon Band would have conversations that might have been read by Michael.

Definitely illegal/poor judgement/unethical behavior but the scope of the actual compromise might not be as large as the *potential* compromise could be. If I had to guess I would wager it was over pay/severance and he very well may have never even read any conversations with Red. </Wild Uninformed Speculation

So far it looks like a Class A Misdemeanor. Maybe nothing much will come of it. Best to let it lie I guess.

I guess that is the *best* case scenario, from what it sounds like... Is a federal case, apparently

Sorry to hear that it occurred in the first place.

Sorry to hear that it happened to impact you, Jim. Hopefully nothing important was breached, personally or privately.

Time for me to go update the passwords...

I bet you this will be made into a movie, how could it not!

Bravin will likely never be able to use a computer professionally again in his life after he gets out of jail. It is going to be pretty hard to get a job in this industry after all this. The Plea states this happened over a period of 2 years, so this does not look like it was just a bad judgement call one drunken night.

I have suspicion that this is just the beginning of all this, Going against the United States Government is one thing, but once you stack on all the civil suits that are likely going to come from the companies affected by this it not only could paralyze Bravin but ARRI as well. Considering that the FBI raided the ARRI offices and reportedly seized all their computers a few months back I wonder how many people in the company benefited from this information directly or indirectly.

Let's not go jumping to any conclusions about the involvement of any companies. The quoted plea mentions one man's act. Beyond that is up to the lawyers and investigators. The whole tale is very unfortunate but certainly no one here other than perhaps Jim knows anything beyond what was reported.

And before anyone asks, I don't know anything at all about it.

Agreed, but one can't help but wonder WHAT COMPANY may have motivated this industrial espionage, or if it's a rogue agent hoping to sell info to many competitors. It's all very SAD indeed.

Right now it's just a misdemeanor. The fact that the Feds are involved does not automatically mean that the offense was significant.

All we know for fact is that Michael Bravin was accused and charged with hacking competitors email accounts during his employment at ARRI, and today he admitted to be guilty of those charges.

It is unclear and not reported yet how much involvement ARRI had with benefiting from the information that Michael may of received.

The person above that stated we are not sure if this goes beyond one man, statements like this extracted from the Dateline Hollywood article would suggest this does not only deal with only one company :

From Dateline article : " Emails from several industry firms were accessed during the hacking, including those of Red Digital Cinema founder Jim Jannard. The hacking occurred between December 2009 and June 2010. "

Jeez, this is very sad. Mike seems like a great guy. How on earth did this happen? :(

I know in my own life I have made serious mistakes, so I try not to judge people too harshly. Especially when I don't know the full story.

Jim and Amnon are two of my favorite people in the world, so this sucks all around.
