  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

EPIC RESOLTUION

I have :) and was happy :) But this is just a conversation about how the EPIC with shit glass looks sweet. Great glass looks great too... but to [sic] sharp for me.
But If Im shooting alot of effects work with a lot of keying going on. The master primes go straight back on :)

RED... you all have finally done it! Toia called it. The Epic is too sharp -- great problem to have :)

The EPIC Camera still blows me away everyday.

This is the softest lens I own at 50mm f1.2 Ziess shot at 1.2.
and it still looks great...

On a 35mm shoot, I would never use it.

Nice shirt, Mark. Hehe

Sorry... T1.3, F1.2... or is the F1.3 T1.4...
And MkIII's...
The MkI's I don't rate the focus rings... always to stiff and the glass a bit bloomy... MKIII's are the pick. As you can see.

My Illuminas are still in London on a TV show. Renting nicely :)
I'm keen to get another set as well especially the 135mm F1.6

Hey Mark,

What's your take on Illuminas ?

texure, color reproduction, bokeh ?

I ask because you have many others you can compare to.

Thanks!

Antoine

Are you finding more pleasing / noticeable results @4k over the MX too?

FRED from FJS says I have the generation before (i didnt buy them from him), but they look just like the ones in the photos???? what ever...

However, older models or newer models does not really matter, they are a great lens. Probably in some areas better than the Super speeds, less CA and a touch sharper at 1.3.
They are a touch bigger and heavey then the ZIESS MKIII's but not enough to annoy you.

In short, I would not hesitate purchasing them.

Weight: *****
brightness: *****
Build quality: ****
Servicing support: unkown
Warranty: unkown
Price (compared to others) *****

Theres enough stars there to make me purchase another set. But I'm really wanting that 135mm F1.6 to complete the kit.

What do you do with EPIC footage to color them besides using REDCINE? Is it possible to use Apple Color or something in Adobe?

The EPIC tends to make soft older lenses look FANTASTIC.
Im currently testing older lenses every lens i can get my hands on and Wholly crap do they look pleasing. Forgiving and overall just beautiful.
I dont know how to explain it you just have to try it for your self one day.

As i see your getting to here.
very helpful
thanks
Toia
