"Ché"...(June 2007)

So Steven Soderbergh went with Ted to see a screening of "Crossing the Line" in LA. Apparently Steven was impressed enough to ask Ted to call me on my cell from the theater. "Hello. This is Steven Sodebergh. I'm all in." I was a bit intoxicated and lost. "All in for what?" "I want to shoot Ché on your camera. And I start in a month." I had no idea whatsoever how this could possibly happen so I said the obvious thing... "OK."

(And yes, Michael, anyone can post in this thread - I only delete posts that don't have a quote.)

Right now on many threads it feels like Jim is the DAD driving the car and a few people are in the VERY BACK seat yelling "are we there yet???". I don't know if it's annoying for Jim and team but it'e pretty annoying for the people in the seats in the middle of the bus, enjoying the ride.

I see what you're getting at Mike.... but RED kind of have a track record of turning up at NAB, year after year, with the same product names as the year before, but not actually selling them.

They wouldn't be RED without a delay or two and a new idea or ten.

Great post:
35 years ago, when I first started work, word processors were non-existent, but now they are ubiquitous. Does that mean that the cost of a good writer has gone down? Not at all, and in real terms good copy is still in demand and commands a premium, either in advertising or journalism. And the amount of absolute rubbish copy that we are bombarded with merely serves to show how good the real deal is.

[...]

The people who have survived this pace of change have done so by a) staying at the cutting edge, b) focusing on what they are really good at, where their talent is, and c) finding ways to build revenue from it.

These days you have to constantly reinvent yourself to stay afloat. The days of learn-a-trade-for-life are over.
